2ltr blacktop zetec clutch

Hi guys,

I have a standard 2.0 blacktop onto a 5spd type 9.
My stupid clutch has started slipping, so looks like I’m going to have to change it.

I’m currently using the standard flywheel and clutch, so am thinking is it worth swapping as I know the blacktop fly is pretty heavy.

I think a common choice is a 1.8 silvertop flywheel with a pinto clutch?

Would this be the best way to go on a budget?

Cheers
Andy

A silvertop or blacktop 1.8 fly will be lighter than the 2.0. One other option is CVH flywheel. There are rare but some Injected CVH engines have flywheels that incorporate a trigger wheel, but most don't.

I use a 1.8 CVH flywheel which is much lighter than any standard Zetec fly, [6.5kg vs 8.5kg iirc] but I needed to fit a front mounter trigger wheel.

With the CVH flywheels, RS Turbo clutches can be used, though I'm using a standard 1.8 CVH clutch which is fine for my 2.0 Zetec.

Thanks, i don't need a trigger wheel...

The only other thought i have had is will my existing starter still work if i change flywheel? I.e. if the flywheel is smaller, i guess my starter wont catch it and i'd rather not change it as it's practically brand new....

Are there any easy comparison charts for flywheels that anyone knows of? I.e. sizes, weights etc.

I used the cvh [LR707?] starter that most people use with Zetec installations where the standard flywheel is used and it works fine (You would expect it to as this is the starter that came with my original CVH engine that I took the flywheel from).

I can't say for sure but don't think you would have a problem with the starter.

Dunnell do a few flywheel options

Or turbo sport have options

I went for the Dunnell as they built my engine up
