Widest rim?
I was wondering if anyone knows what the widest rim has been put on a book chassis?
From what I can figure if I build a book chassis I can have 17x9.5 with a +40 offset on the rear. I want some lip like a dax rush has hence the size.
This should keep it at 66 inches total width, same as the Tiger Avon chassis.
The front will probly get a 17x7 or 7.5. I know this will increase understeer but i think that would be a good thing.
Any advice would be great, If I have to build a wider chassis now is the time to fix that. I want to start cutting this week!!

i would stay well away from 17" imho, they are heavier, more expensive and reduce the handling capability as the roll centres will be well out
on that sized rim, without even mentioning kpi on a funny offset, bumpsteer and ride height complications..
also bear in mind the car will be more skittish on a really low profile tyre (40/45?) that you'll need to use on that size rim, also the brakes
will look pathetically tiny like a 1p piece inside a dinner plate!
are you just wanting bling factor? otherwise go for 15", better/cheaper available rubber aswell (though 13" is my preference when i ge
some rear calipers i can fit them over)

If its just width your after then how about a set of 13x15 wheels on the rear

Can i just ask one question....why do you want such wide rims? Wide rims on a light car are not encouraged as you lose a lot of grip. Big diameter
wheels wont help with the cornering either. Besides think of all that weight in the wheels!
Most people fit no more that 205 wide tyres on 15" rims. They will go on 7.5 rims, 195 tyres will go on 7" rims. If you ask what is the
best for handling most will probably say something like 13" 195 60s i think.

The general idea is <150bhp 185/60 13s all round, 150bhp+ you would be safer with 205/60 13s on the rear. These sizes are the most popular and
known to be the best for handling. I have the same problem as ned so ive got a set of 14" wheels with 185/60 14s.

The reason I was going with a 17 rim was mostly for looks. I love the way Vipers car looks. Maybe I'm just being dumb, a 16 would look good
too.
The reason I wanted to go with a wide rim was also for the lip. If I run a 9 I would have 44 inches between the tire leaving me 2 inches per side
between body and tire. This is with a 40 offset which is common and cheap. I really want the tires to fill the wheel well. I also really like the look
of this lipped rim. I relize that handeling wouldnt be as good.
Now when I go to race, I was gonna get a set of these Konig Rewinds. They look really cool and I can get them in 15x7 which would be pretty good for
autox.
Or maybe I will just run the rewinds all the time. Get a set of 15'x7 for street and 14x7 for racing. I think they look pretty good and Have the
dish I want.
Best thing to do for a build....

I dont think you'd get anything like that wheel onto a book chassis, there wouldnt be enough clearance on the inside. I have to run 5mm spacers
in order to fit 205/60-13" tyres on my book chassis because otherwise the tyre just catches the trailing arm bolts as the suspension moves.
