Correct Fireblade engine
Hello,
I am sure this question has been asked loads of times before but which is the correct fireblade engine to use for a bike engined project. What age
engine (To avoid SVA problems) and also the correct type 909, 893 carb or injection?
Thankyou

I think all have been used in cars with some success, but for avoicing the emmissions test at SVA I think it's pre 1996 (not sure of the exact
cut off date). I know this rules out the 954 injection version, and I'm pretty sure all the 893cc carb engines are fine. The 919cc engine
falls on both sides *I think* so get a haynes manual and check the serial no.
The emmissions test at SVA isn't insurmountable if you can;t get an older engine, but it's best avoided.
All the best.

For info only in case you come across a later engine - if you go for a post 95 engine - eg a 96/97 919cc blade, - it will cost you approx £100 - £150
to hire a cat for the SVA test.

This should help with deciding on which 'blade engine to use.

Asa bit of extra value, the 893 engine has a weaker clutch, when they went to 916 an additional plate was added and the steel driven plates increased
in thickness from 1.6mm to 2mm. However if you get an 893 you can upgrade when it fails.
