stress analysis
just curious has anybody ever done any stress analysis on the frame,
either just to see whats going on or with a veiw to improving the basic design

Don't forget though, it's all hypothetic as it has not been tested. However, the Book chassis, with all its shortcomings, has been
tested to destruction and still came out looking not too bad!
Cheers, Rorty.

plus if you have some weakness in the chassis if you ever crash that will deform, if the chassis is superstrong ....... well, modern cars have crumple
zones for a reason.

... so if you stiffen the nose & engine bay as recommended, then stiffen the cockpit even more - I'm going to triangulate the sides and
floor with (25mm square) diagonals (or v- or x-braces as appropriate). Shouldn't add too much weight, but it's all low down anyway

A very good crumple zone can be made by fabricating a duct out of ally sheet for getting air in and out of the radiator. Hollow ally structures are
very good at soaking up knocks.
I wouldn't worry about the extra stiffness making the car less safe. My mods take the book chassis to (probably) a little bit less than the
Caterham, and no one calls that dangerous.
