Renault 5 Turbo

I have been offered a mint 190bhp R5 turbo engine with all ancilaries for a very very reasonable price, but you guessed it!!

What gearbox to use???????

I've read through the archives and found little to help so I'm hoping somebody has found a solution recently.
There has to be an option thats not too much hard work!!

Them engines can give trouble.

Best bet is probably to get a bell housing made up for a type 9.

Alright, apart from being a transaxle design.

some early renault traffics are rwd or how about dacia duster but not sure if transfer box was seperate from the gear box or remove bell housing from volvo 340 and see if it could be adapted to fit type 9 box

wouldnt a type 9 , be a little fragile on such a motor ?

bellhousing from a 340 could possibly work , but they have a tailshaft housing bolted on, so they can be quite small in that area , its obvious to me to bang on a transaxle and stick it in the back !!

otherwise , id be picking a more reliable motor , altho i do have stocks of pistons and liners !!

Dacia Duster? Is this not a Renault 12 clone? If so I think it is front wheel drive with the engine in line behind transaxle. Renault 16 engine and transaxle were the same period as the original 12 and these were the original power transmission unit for the Lotus Europa.
