Top 12 Kit Manufacturers

Taken from www.totalkitcar.com, here are the top 12 kit manufacturers for 2005. Congratulations to the lads at MNR straight in at No 9.

Must admit though, I'm surprised that Robin Hood are at No 1, given the transitional phase they've been going through quite recently, I wouldn't have thought they'd sold that volume of kits.

1st Robin Hood Sportscars 550

2nd Westfield Sports Cars 400

3rd Caterham Cars 320

4th MK Sportscars 180

5th Tiger Racing 150

6th DJ Sportscars/DAX 130

7th Luego Sportscars 125

8th Pilgrim Cars UK Ltd 100

9th MNR Ltd 80

10th GTM Cars 70

11th Quantum Sports Cars 65

12th Ultima Sports 60

Not that it could be counted accurately but I wonder where home built locosts would fit in ? I would guess nearer the top than bottom of the top 12.

Where is Stuart Taylor, would have expected them too be in there ?

I'm surprised at Ultima - I know they have a superb product, but wouldn't have thought they managed 60 units a year.

Impressive.

to be honest Im quite suprised at the amount of kits some of those companies have sold considering there so unorganised and dont live in 2005 where were very internet based

Ultima and Caterham have an international following which no doubt makes up for the lack of "some" native sales.

I'm a little surprised Fisher and ST aren't up there.

Wrt Robin Hood, I think that the figure above is low for them - but bear in mind they have "Collection Weekends" where upwards of 150 people collect their kit rather than the "sequential dribble" of kits most manufacturers churn out.

Does it mention Retail (road) sales for Westfield and Caterham?

As a fair few of there sales might be race only cars and never actually make it onto the road,

there will also be a few in private collectors or car nuts collections, should imagine JK will have a R500 in a garage somewhere

The figures may or may not be accurate, but I think you will find they are total sales over more than 1 year.... not annual sales for 2005...

Robin hoods probably includes all the old junk they sold off to make space in the factory
