Chromerzone silencer repacking
OK - I'm confused (no change there then...)
I will need to repack my Chromerzone 7 silencer fairly soon, 'cos it's getting very noisy. Trouble is, it doesn't have an end cap -
you're supposed to pull the pipe out and pack it in somehow, which seems cock-eyed.
Has anyone packed one of these things and can tell me how it's done?
I could buy a refill pack from Custom Chrome that comes with instructions, but I'd rather use rockwool than fibreglass again.
Cheers,
David

someone call me ?
Never done a chromerzone one but I have done my wunoff one twice now.
You will need
wire wool (pref stainless)
wire (stainless lockwire is ideal)
roll of clingfilm
rockwool / other packing.
Ok
1. Tightly wire a layer of the wirewool around the perforated centre tube with the lockwire.
2. Wrap the tube (now with covering of wire wool) tightly with clingfilm.
3. Because of the way your silencer is designed you will need the packing material in a sheet form. Roll the material round the centre tube, securing
with thin plastic twine if you need to put more than one layer on.
4. Once the final layer is on wrap the whole thing in cling film and stuff it back into the silencer body.
5. Refit the silencer, start the car and try to ignore the smell of burning plastic as the twine and clingfilm burn out.
and you didn't have to use the big hammer at all.

Well my chromezone has no end caps. Take it off the car, undo the bolt on tail pipe. The tail pipe is attached to the perforated pipe. As you pull the
tail pipe out the back of the silencer the front end of the perforated pipe pulls out from inside the front of the silencer. Pull it out about six
inches and you can then ram wool in through the front pipe and tamp it round the perforated pipe with a broom handle or such like. Works but not a
very good system.

Dusty is correct as its identical to mine
It was a bit of a bugger to do, but i used a piece of 3/4 dowell to tamp the wadding in
Im not sure what others use but i used Motor bike wadding, as for the noise it didnt make any difference

As Dusty says - no end caps...
I'm tempted to cut around the end, weld on a collar and use screws to re-fit. Won't look so 'pretty' but at least it will be
practical.
