locost / corsa body
Hello all,
I'm new to the world of locost but been wanting to do something a bit different for a while now.
So here goes, I'm planning to build my own chassis, but instead of the traditional seven type style body, I'm planning to build to suit a
vauxhall corsa body mainly fiberglass (bumpers, bonnet, boot, doors, wide rear quarters and wide wings all sourced from
euro rallye
Also hoping to use a vauxhall 2l 16v turbo engine (c20let or turbo'd 20xe).
If any 1 has done anything like this before any help/criticisms would be great full.

Might be best to fit the engine transversely in the boot (or FWD ), as there will be limited room in the nose of a corsa for a Front engine RWD
layout (though I'm sure it could be squeezed in with some effort).
Building with anything like a standard locost chassis will give you one major headache to solve - doors
Sounds like you want to talk to some autograssers as that's the kind of thing they do all the time, so they should have some handy hints.
Also look up Z-cars who fit bike engines in the back of mini's. welderman (and his avatar) is doing one himself over on the mid-engine
forum.
Other than that sounds like a laugh.

Would be better off with a spaceframe chassis, then it could be built so that the corsa panels fit. The locost chassis is probably too long and thin
to fit.
Im sure i have heard of space frame corsas used for rally cross and rallying. Means you can easily use rwd or 4wd and pretty much any engine you want.

Sylva have just made a custom, shorter Riot chassis for a builder who wants to fit a Mini shell over the chassis.....

The plan is to take the locost designs as a reference and design my own chassis to suit the corsas width and length, as a I want to build as much of
the car as I can my self.
I have already built a 2l 16v (about 160bhp) corsa and wouldn't like to put any more power through the front wheels as it will loose its
drivability. Also considered building a mid engined corsa, would be a lot easier and cheaper but to be honest don't fancy the engine behind
me.
