Book running gear

Right then, looks like I am going to start again from scratch.

I have got as far as stripping my donor car and had the chassis taken for scrap. I was going for the MK Indy and had been heading down that route.

Circumstances have changed and I now cannot afford the BEC route. But since I built a garage especially I am going to opt for a book car.

I am going to build it in line with the 750mc locost class regulations. But been having a look about and cannot seem to find any of the running gear or drive chain about.

Is there a supplyer that does the donor kits, or sells the parts in case I dont get much luck at the scrappies?

If you're building from scratch then there aint gonna be a huge difference in cost/time between a bec and a book car to race regs i wouldn't have thought. MKII scort stuff is hard to find and fetches a premium, whereas you've already got sierra parts so just pick up a fireblade engine for 500 quid or maybe even less for something like a ZX9R. Seems like a good time to get a bike engine on ebay at the moment. You'd probably spend nearly that on a decent rebuilt 1300 and all the other MKII bits.

Use the sierra bits and do your own IRS or get the GTS dedion bits. You know it makes sense!! Building from scratch you can spend the money when you need to/have it.

You say you were fancying a bec MK originally. If funds dont allow why not build with an MK locost chassis (assuming they still do them)? I know these can be put together on a serious budget if you are prepared to do own bodywork etc. Might make the bec route possible again.

Spoke with MK and they still do the book chassis, tried calling ST (no answer) and then there is also Luego.

I plan to buy the basic load bearing chassis ready made and then finish the rest of it off myself.

I do have a MMA welder (stick welder) to do the rest of it. Just much rather be nailing it round a track in a professionally put together chassis. Only drawback is can I get the escort parts?

Long term I guess I would do another but a BEC, but this will be a long way off b4 funds are available, wife just gave birth last month

If you want to build to 750mc regs you need the escort bits, try Kit-fit or Ian Harwood.

Kit fit do have a website but I don't think Ian Harwood do, I'd get a copy of Classic Ford and look in the ads too.

Cheers

I'm guessing Procomp are getting Bored with their chassis's winning races , and want to make it more of a challenge for the drivers by making them finnish the welding on the chassis ???
Only joking, you can't get much better than an LA Gold chassis from them !! check results if you doubt it !!

HI if only the trouble is that ive got this chassis that i was going to run in rgb to give the stuart taylors a run for thier monney. But as usual customers keep bringing work in and my car is always put to the back and with the new project just about to be started i need this chassis out of the way.

Altho i always try to make our drivers work harder mainly so they can lose a few kgs.
as for the oposition well you would be amazed how much effort people put in to front running cars so it dosent matter how hard you try getting a win is never going to be easy .

cheers matt
