What now......? (X-Flow racer vs BEC Track car)

Ok - first point to make, this is not an immediate problem as I need to move house, get stuck into my new job blah blah....

HOWEVER, once a decision is made, I can start to accumulate parts, sooooo.......

Basically, I can't decide if I want a BEC Trackday (R1, full cage, etc) car or a Locost Racer.

On the one hand, I've promised myself that I'd be racing by the time I'm 30 - currently 26. On the other hand, I loved the high revving, frantic BEC car I've sadly had to sell.

What I can't afford is to be competiive in RGB so it's down to the other two...

How SLOW is a locost racer? Would anybody be able to give me a ride or better still a few laps at the wheel?

Cheers

TC

You could race in class C RGB, ok like me in class A you wont be a front runner but there will be plenty of people too race with just a bit further back, I understand where your coming from I could sell up and afford too buy/build a competitive locost racer but after driving BECs I think you would find it not quite the same, this is in no way disrespectful of any locost racers out there, I love watching the close all the way down the field locost races, I just get a buzz out of high revving bike engines.

Tim, you ever tried Long Circuit gearbox karting? Suggest you take a look sometime.

One thing to bear in mind is that if you're going to build a front running 750MC Locost from scratch it'll cost you an easy £8K by the time you've finished, been there, done that (twice!) and have the receipts to prove it! - when even the very best race winning ones struggle to sell 2nd hand for much more than 5K I would say it makes much more sense to buy and tinker a bit with it rather than build.

You'd get/build a pretty sorted class C BEC for 8K I would imagine, not class winning but certainly far from embarrasing - ok the engine would be pretty stock but it certainly wouldn't be any more expensive than a competitive Locost engine (think £1K+ for one that'll get you at the front) and gearbox (£500ish for a rebuilt one with the right ratios) and the rest of the car would be near identical.

Just a thought
(I knew talking to MNR at Oulton Park would be an expensive mistake - If I'm not carefull I'm going to start poping up in a Hellfire stylee every time someone asks what engine to fit! )

HI i think your only answer is to get along to a 750mc meeting and have a good look. there is also kits where a good seconhand car is the same price as a locost 5-6k but with 150-200 bhp and the same running costs. All three have good grids rgb locost and kits alot of new drivers have the same problem trying to make up there mind witch formula your not alone.

cheers matt

just checked afraid kits and locost dont go to pembrey this year

just checked again rgb are at pembrey on july 15-16 if you check the 750 website for dates there is a few times when all of the formulas are at one meeting.
cheers again matt
