Cheers for the link, but I try to avoid them if possible as their prices are generally higher, but I will use them if I can't do better elsewhere.

Do you have a drill stand ?

One of these, a hole cutter and a jig for holding the pipe is all that's really required.

Probably not the best quality, but http://cgi1.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4442471530
Sort of thing which given access to a mill/lathe you could make yourself in an hour.

Then again, if you had access to a mill you could notch your own pipes too.

Ordered from Demon. Cost £89.10 delivered, including vat.

I needed it as my next project will be an exposed chassis and a lot of it will be tig welded and on show.

The problem with the cheap ones, is that they use an electric drill to spin the hole saw. And, a leccy drill just does not turn slow enough.

A 1" holesaw only needs about 300-400 rpm, at most. My experience has shown me that 150-200 is OK. Lube with WD40 or cutting fluid.

Then there is the problem with drills trying to break your wrists when they jam!

Holesaw in a drill stand or mill, or a side and face cutter in the lathe or mill, are the better ways of doing the job.

Cheers,
Syd.

The one from Demon can be bolted via the foot onto a drill press.
