Robin Westhoodfield

Was it my imagination or has Robin Hood actually taken over Westfield? ie has it been officially announced?

If so does that mean Westfield owners will need to be issued with new stickers to celebrate this alliance?

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

yeah i'm curious as well, not in the industry, just an abuser of the product. Suspect you work with a friend of a friend.

Bro is in the industry. Based in sheffield, used to be a close relation to a sprite who hated water and shouldn't be fed after midnight, now he's put on a lot of weight.

(that should be obvious enough to anyone in the industry)

if you really like your trivia, he used to be a "real football fan" (now that is getting obscure and i've probably got the quote wrong).

Im @ the place that made Colin McRae famous and once produced quality games like BMX Simulator (LOL) and Sensible Soccer. We also do RaceDriver3 and Brian Lara....

MIKE - I notice a certain 'gremlin' in your quote there ;-)

Can't see why you've noticed a gremlin. I thought it was full of Info gram-atically correct data.

Of course he's put on a lot of weight now. (trying to think how i can twist this next bit round)

In fact he's so fat and what with working with computers he's a bit of a binary wrestler.

Now whilst we've got this hijack going, can you figure out the "real football fans" bit? Actually you probably can if you play football.

Lol, one of the Darlings picked us up from the local station in his sportscar of the time (Can't remember what it was though - Don't think it was an exotic) when we were going to do a game for them. Also got to and see a race at brands Hatch - Their hospitality suite was a double decker bus parked in the middle of the infield

They've also announced a Porsche 959 Speedster copy.

2 new models EVERY year!!!! Blimey, that will take some managing. Sounds like they have some agressive plans afoot. Can only be a good thing for the industry.

Assuming they can avoid getting sued to death by Porsche and Ferrari...

They will certainly have the scale of operation to dominate the industry if they want to.

getting sued would certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons!

Mind you Robin Hood has a tradition of taking from the Rich to give to the poor!!!

Ok, here's a suggestion.

You run robin hood. You realise that you don't have a reputation for producing the best 7, but, you do have a reputation for producing a cheap 7. You want to introduce new models as the & market is crowded and i suspect margins are going down.

Buy Westfield, maintain the position near the top of the tree (and i assume higher margins). This allows your brand (lightweight etc) to gain from them and still strangle the lower end. Economies of scale mean more profits through out.

Robinhood can then move to producing other vehicles, eg the spider copy and make potentially more profit on them.

Seems a good idea, the only issue is making sure the westfield brand doesn't get 'tarnished' with the robin hood one. The industry is small so word will travel fast. I'd expect westfield to stay exactly the same for at least a year.

what do you think?

I agree, I think the Skoda, VW, Audi model could keep the 'brands' suitably distinct.
I doubt most westfield buyers would even know who owned the company.

Update 28th April 2006 -We are pleased to announce RHS has now agreed terms to acquire another kit car manufacturer-if completed (it is still early days) this will give RHS a brand new sector of the market-different to the Lotus 7 style cars but still high volume in its sector around the world

Just to clear this gossip up.Chris Smith addressed us all at Stoneleigh today and stated that he and his wife are the owners of Westfield Cars and have no intention of ever selling the buisness. This was after the speculation of the Robin Hood senario. All westie owners at the show looked very relieved,me included.

i don't remember porsche ever making a convertible 959 but there was one on the rh stand today and it looked poo.

and incidentally if i did ever get very ill and decide to make a cheap car look like a ferrari i'd go for the pug 406 v6 coupe rebody, not the mr2 - at least with a v6 you've got a bit more oomph and a better sound even if it is still horribly wrong (eg engine in wrong place!).

They had managed to get the cash for some real porsche badges I noticed. Silly buggers asking to get sued.

If not westfield, then who I wonder. Cobra's are the only other things that seem to sell in large volumes.

Did look at that and thought it looked nice, the bit i find a) funny and b) probably what i'd do if i was doing this is ......... that they do an option to remove the rear seats and put a fake firewall and fake engine in the back of the car.

I think you'll find an MR2 Turbo would considerably out-oomph a 406 V6! 245bhp vs 210bhp in stock form, and 300bhp is not expensive to reliably extract from the 3SGTE lump. Will be the first to admit that the V6 is leagues ahead in terms of sound quality though

Personaly I would never want to be inside one of the MR2 based 355 replicas, the ridiculously large rear wheel spacers look dangerous. I reckon owners must be a dab hand at replacing wheel bearings...

Anyone noticed that the quote about RH acquiring another company seem to have been removed from totalkitcar.com?

Indeed it does seem to have gone awol, though it's still on the front page of http://www.robinhoodengineering.co.uk, so it's unlikely to be them that asked for it to be removed.

This is the story I got from a reliable source at stoneleigh.

It's a wind-up.

A Westfield owner turned up at Robin Hood and wanted to buy some lights, the new owner, being a mischevious type refused, because of Westfield's unwillingness to sell bits to other seven drivers.

The westfield owner took exception to this and complained on one of the Westfield forums. This got back to RH and they started the takeover rumour as a form of "pay back"

He swears he only told four people, but EVERYONE at Stoneleigh had heard!

Cheers

Chris
