Woo-Hoo! Donor Teardown Started!
I've been waiting to get my build going, and took advantage of a free hour this evening to start tearing into my donor, a '93 Chevy S-10
with a 2.8L V6. I'm planning to salvage the wiring harness as well as a number of other pieces in the dash, and since it'd be a tight fit
to do it the "normal" way, off comes the top!
Before (sorry for the horrible picture color):
After:
Tomorrow the hood (bonnet), fenders, and doors come off and the scrap goes to the recycling yard. If time permits I'll pull the engine &
trans and start pulling the dash apart.

Why not just sort the radii and leave it like that?

This pic is for you Brits! I inverted it to make it seem more normal for you. Only problem is that when I look at it I wonder who stole the damn
steering column!...
The front end is heavily dismantled now, but the truck still starts and runs. I plan to try to keep it that way until I'm ready to pull the
engine. All the parts I've pulled so far probably weigh as much as the Locost body will weigh!
Also in the spirit of building a British car, I've only listened to Iron Maiden and the Clash during the teardown.

I recently took delivery on my nosecone from Canadian Locost. Slightly different look than the "classic" design, but I like it. The
"chin" on the bottom hopefully will survive the curb entering my driveway!

Jeff i'm liking the nose cone. It's very similar to what I've done to a std one except where the chin is I've got a flat plate
for the number plate (licence plate to you) I'll try and post a picture.
OOPs sorry for the hijack I'll post the picture in a new "body work " thread.

It's no longer a driving bathtub, but it's still able to be driven. The weight-loss continues as the rear bed is removed. I could
probably roast the rear tires now with so little weight on the back end. I'll have to try that when the neighbors aren't looking.

The teardown is coming along well. Here's the original wiring harness from under the hood. It's in great shape so I plan to re-use
it.
I'm also going to have to get creative in how I get rid of the power steering pump, A/C compressor, and air pump. I may need to make some
custom brackets if I can't find anything pre-made.
The 2.8L V6 is removed from the S10 without any incidents. I had a hard time getting it out before remembering to cut the gas and return lines.
I plan to use the original steering column if at all possible as well. It's got all the controls I need for the turn signals, wipers, and has a
tilt function and built-in crush sleeve.
The rear axle was also pulled today. It's not as wide as I had hoped, so my +4 width will probably be a +1 or 2 instead. I'll have to
butter my hips to get in!

Even if it's not 'that' wide the original escort donor for the book is quite narrow so you'll probably still be ok. I think
the escort is 48" between the back plates.
