What is it worth?
Hi all,
I have a Locost that has been under construction for at least 8 years! Is that a record? Progress has slowed almost to a halt in recent years, mainly
because it is located at my parents house which is 150 miles away from where I live. If that was not bad enough I bought a nice Fury last year which
has been consuming time.... Anyway my parents now want their garage back so I need to dispose of the Locost.
I have had some time off this week, and have tidied it up a bit and got it running again. The car is driveable however it has never been more than a
few yards on the drive so there may be problems that show up on a more prolonged test drive.
The spec is:
Standard book chassis but with a 2inch longer cockpit.
Clam shell front wings from Eddie White
Rear Wings from Ron Champion.
Front Wishbones by MK
Cortina uprights with new discs, pads and recon calipers.
Caterham Spax shocks on the front.
Mk2 Escort Steering rack
Sierra Steering Column.
Mk2 Escort Radiator
Mk2 Escort 1300 xflow
Caterham 4-2-1 Exhaust
Mk2 Escort 4 Speed Gearbox
Modified Mk2 Escort Loom
Modified Mk2 Escort Axle with new brake shoes.
Trailing arms and Panhard rod by MK.
MK Ali Fuel tank.
MK Rollbar.
Although not ftted I have a loom with all the lights and switches for the dashboard.
I think that covers the major parts. The things that need doing to complete are:
Fit a Speedo.
Fit a Temperature gauge.
Fit an airfilter.
New wheels and tyres.
Fit seat belts (I stole these for another project)

So the question is what is it worth in its current state, and how much more would it be worth if I completed it and had it SVA'd?

Its probably not worth much. However, If what you say is all that needs to be done then 1 day's labour and a set of wheels and tyres from eBay
would make it worth a whole lot more. It would be worth your while finishing it unless you just want to get rid of it for little money.
People usually want to build something themselves, so that they know its right or they want it finished and ready to go.
I thought about buying a part built but only beacuse it was very cheap.

roughly a grand now and maybe 2.5-4k once sva'd depending on finish.

would agree with Joel 
You may get more selling it as bits. But for what that would take, you may aswell finish it.

Looks like a good build so far, I would deffinitely say finish it rather than break it as that would take a lot more work! Go for it good luck

If you need it out of your parents' garage soon then why not talk to a local mechanic and ask if he is interested in finishing it off for you.
Agree a list of jobs and a fee, (payable upon passing SVA if possible). You should easily recover the cost of the remaining work when you sell it and
you will gain the satisfaction of knowing that you finished the job!
There may even be some people on the forum here who might be interested in helping you finish it and perhaps splitting the proceeds.
Above all, don't break it up! An unfinished project (like mine...) is only worth a fraction of the money spent on it until you get it past
SVA.
