Kit Car Guidance
Hi,
I am still seriously considering a kit car but am finding the amount of information a bit
I was hoping that you people here could guide me in the direction of what I want or give me some hints/tips:
> Must cost under £5k built/sva'd etc etc (cheaper the better ideally)
> Fairly straightforward (my first build, I can't weld so ready built chassis would be nice etc but at the same time I would be willing to
source parts to keep costs down etc)
> Sports/trackday based though must be usable on the road (will spend 95%+ of its life there). Ariel Atom/Caterham 7 style or anything else
considered.
> Fairly cheap/easy to maintain
So far I have 2 cars on my list:
MK Indy
Onyx Mongoose
Does anybody have an email address for Onyx Sports Cars as I cannot seem to find one? Does anybody here have or know anyone who has a Mongoose?
Many thanks in advance!

ok simple answer all kits are going to need building its fun takes time some bits are harder to do some are easy
get a kit of one of the manafacturers Like MK deluxe kit for just under 3k
get your donor
use the pinto engine for now
some nice second hand alloys
easy £5k

My indy came in at under 5k on the road.
As Chris says, something like the Indy deluxe kit and a basic build with donor engine should give you what you want.

The Procomp LA Gold will fir the bill perfectly and comes in well under 5K.
Its still based on the MK2 Escort but uses Sierra front upright. Theres a fair bit of building in it, but that keeps the costs down and its a good
looking LSIS.

Onyx Sportscars - http://www.onyxsportscars.f9.co.uk/
Address and phone number are on there and if you google 'onyx mongoose' there is a blog out there by someone who's building one and
another site with a few build photos. Have been considering building one myself for track use but having seen the build photos the general quality of
construction of the kit looks a bit dodgy which has put me off somewhat. It's only tiny as well so you'd probably feel extremely vunerable
if you drove it on the roads. It would need a serious looking at in terms of appearance too which could be fun or not depending on how much you want
to put into the build
Not going to mention build costs as I caused a bit of a kafufle last time I did that
