Number plate & chassis markings
When I take my car to the SVA test does it need to have number plates fitted?
What markings/info do I need on the chassis? (chassis No., vehicle weight etc?)
What paper work do I need for the SVA?
Does the exhaust silencer need a heat shield over it? It is one from Robin Hood.
Thanks for any help.

You cant have number plates unless you have an SVA pass MAC certificate. You have to drive it with no plates to the test, until you get it registered
afterwards.
I would suggest that you start off lookingat the DVLA's web site, and come back and ask specific questions when you get specifically confused!
Essentially, you apply to your LOCAL VRO who will inspect or not your car, after you do a bit of form filling, they will issue a VIN number. This you
stamp on the chassis BEFORE you go to SVA.
Exhaust guarding is specific to test centres. Some will want to see wrapped down pipes, some not. I would suggest you sheild the box tho. Also expect
to fail first time and hae a little list of corrections to sort. I wouldnt do anything fringe unless I know I have to.
You have to applly to DVLA for an SVA application form. As for axle weights, some on her emight be able to help, but its a bit of a guessing game. If
you get the weights wrong, it affects the braking tests and you could get a fail.

Hi Alistair -
For chassis markings/VIN plate advice, check out the Robin Hood list on "groups.Yahoo.com". Seemed pretty comprehensive to me.

If you exhaust is the lolocost stainless steel silencer then you will require a heat shield due to the sharp edges around the box, dont quote me but a
knock on edge strip with the required radius may be ok. i am going to play it safe and fit a heat sheild with radiused ends.(this will also hide the
rewelding to the box that i have had to do due to there crap design as it is that dam high it can be used as a heated arm rest!) but to be sure call
the test centre that you are going to have the car tested at.

I was one of those that got into that discussion on the RH group.
The way they get their VIN isnt gonna be the same for a locost if you build your own chassis.
A robin hood is given a 'unique' vin by making it
ROBINHOODxxxxxxxx
where the 'x' is your kit invoice number, padded with leading zeros.
A true locost has no kit..........
I proposed a way of doint it that I MIGHT use - see the rh yahoo group, as i dont wanna type that all again!
