Ive finally decided

Ive been looking at quite a few kits over the past few months and although theres so many to pick from, I had a rough budget in mind so a Locost was on the cards but being a pain in the ass i had to do something a bit different. So ive settled on an Onyx Mongoose. I went to Onyx near Grimsby on saturday and left a deposit for a bare chassis as im going to fit it with a Yamaha XJR1300 engine.

So in about 2 weeks when my chassis is finished i will be starting my build. I allready have the engine so first up i will be making the cradle then taking it from there.

Im aiming for 350kg with 120bhp (once ive done a bit of tuning) so it should be fun.

I considered a Mongoose and still would if it wasn't for the fact that they no longer support a road version apparently and that the front styling is far from nice... Shame as I love the look of it from the back and its compact dimensions... Also like the idea of using the cheap and light K-Series unit.

There only seems to be one blog of someone building one and he's stopped - how many kits have they actually sold?

I love the Mongoose, Onyx have a nack of creating rather ugly but very competieive little cars, i would like a mongoose and design some sort of full body for it.
Best of luck with the build mate.
cheers.

the've sold 4-5 if i remember right. Its a great little car with great looks i think. I like it because it just looks like it has been taken right of a race track and put on the road. I also like the idea that i will proberly never see another on the road which makes it feel a bit more special. The styling is great as far as im concerned i think it looks good.

Im building mine for road use and it will see a few track days.

Onyx are putting a holt to the Mongoose for a few months now as they are doing a Bugatti project so my chassis will be the last for a while.

Ive been told about the guy with the blog. Onyx are picking the unfinished car up from the owner next week i think, and selling it on on his behalf. There is another build page on 1 somewhere but cant remember.

I will be doing a build diary with mine as i go along. The whole thing will set me back about £2500 and thats been very realistic as alot of the parts i can make at work or get very cheap. So far the engine and chassis has only cost me £600, due to a good buy. The bike only cost £600. Ive sold most of the parts i dont need and made almost a £1000 back. the chassis has cost £1000 because im only buying a bare chassis and nothing else. So im only £600 light so far. Onyx are also giving me a copy of there suspension drawings so i can build my own up. An almost complete car will set me back about £12-1300. The biggest part of the cost will be the wheels, exhaust, wilwoods, SVA, registration etc.
