MK indy quality comparition

Hello All MK ouners
I'd like to ask how would you compare MKinhdy quality to it's rivals? Big boys like Cat and Westfield and others like Stuart etc.?
Thank you Tudor

Ted - having visited Harrogate Show over the weekend and looked at various manufacturers Chassis' - I'd say materials and weld quality/finish is on the whole above ALL others.

But don't just take my word for it!

I would say the chassis and fabrication work is as good as westfield and caterham, but where the difference is, is in the fibre glass. Don't get me wrong the MK's fibre glass is very good and better than many (ST, Avon etc), but it just doesn't have the "fit" that the westy and caterham has.

Have to agree about the fibreglass. The chassis is very good, all my wishbones etc bolted on very easy. What you do need to decide is how much you buy from MK. I bought the chassis and body panels only and sourced the rest myself, so to an extent you will decide the quality of the finished car.

Take time and choose careful and you will end up with a very good car for a few thousand less than the West or Catm car.

well i've got a westfield and the quality of the fibreglass is no better than the Indy panels. Maybe the precise fitting is a bit poorer and the westy mouldings are more complex ...but then the price is also higher......its why my second car is an Indy.

It's maybe a bit unfair to compare an Indy to a caterham or westfield, both companies are large, well established operations, with development budgets to match. The overall quality is bound to be higher, but of course so is the cost to build. A good specification home built westie is going to set you back roughly double the price of a factory built Indy.
You pays your money and takes your choice.
Where i think you can compare the different Marques, is performance and handling, and for twice (or more) the money, you don't get a vast improvement in either.
Only my opinion of course.

siert,

I'm not complaining about the finish of the MK panels, i think they are very good, especially for the price, all i actually meant was panel trim edges and panel to panel precision doesn't seem to be as good as a caterham or westy. But then again i haven't actually built either of them so maybe they need the same amount of fettling

Not offering a comparison at all as I have nothing to base one on, but I did talk to someone who had built a Caterham from a kit recently and he (a very well qualified engineer) said that he was very impressed, everything fited together perfectly and was very straighforward. This is probably only what you should expect for the money however.

mk indy quality comparition

A friend has spent a vast amount of money building a Dax Rush(his kit cost twice as much as my completed car) and we've been compering build of chassis and panel finish against my mk indy.
The chassis are very similar in weld quality and powder coat.
Fibreglass panels are more ripperly on the Dax and are not as thick as MK's, though edge finish to gel coat is better on the Dax. £ for £ the mk seams more value for money.
