What radiator to use?
I'm having that "why bother continuing" feeling at the moment.
I suspect the engine I have is going to be trouble as everything I've touched on it up to now has broken and most of the bits I've bought
seem to be wrong.
I've got what is a polo radiator but doesn't seem to be like the one people have shown in pictures. Its about 520mm wide (total not core)
and has 4 screw points, which are offset around the side parts (my camera is shot at the moment so I can't get a photo).
What is anyone using in a 2.0 pinto?
I'm honestly at the point this weekend of just giving up on the whole project.

Mine looks miles wider that that so I guess its time to get a proper sized radiator.
Looking at some pictures the one I have is probably a MK4 polo radiator. I drove for sodding miles to get that too

Micra rads can also be used. Micra models to look for, are late 80's upto early 90's. D to J prefixed registration.

I tell you what the MK Indy section needs, an FAQ sticky page with a list of parts used by everybody to replace other bits, e.g. radiators
alternators. Not theoretically may fit, but either "yes will certainly fit" or "I've used this"
I guess a posting for each major part ,e.g. alternators, radiators e.t.c could be worth having.
I've seen a few mentionds of micra rads not being beefy enough for a pinto, but I'll look around.
The new book says a 2000 Clio, which is not really of too much use as there are quite a few different types of clio.
My rad certinaly looks like VW349 which is a bit of an arse. Its a tight fit under the nose cone.
What about a Ford Escort rad from Northern radiators. If so which model from there as they don't list them in relation to Mark II e.t.c.
I'm just at that point where its becomming a bottomless money pit of incorrect parts rather than being a smooth process.
I have worked out that it would have been considerably cheaper for me to go BEC than pinto by now and I probably would have progressed further too

Cool. Looks like I'm going to have to book off a couple of days and go hunting around breakers yards. Failining that I'll go to northern
radiators.

polo rad
The polo rad that I first tried was a tight fit in my nose cone. The one that I have now got is 470 mm in length and fits fine.
its a Nissens rad part no 65140. cost £45
from my local motor factors. You just cut of the outer brackets and fit it useing the threaded inserts on the end tanks. Its from an early polo I
think.

That sounds a lot better than Northern Radiators that wasn near £60 by the time you have added postage and VAT.
I've also seen on fleabay a 2nd hand Escort MK2 rad for £40 inc post. I know this is a popular choice, but is it worth that much?
