Hardtop on teh MK

Just went on my first test run having completed my hardtop. It's easy to take off to I can switch back to aeroscreen in a matter of minutes. I've got a bit more work to do on it, general tidying and I'm going to add more to the back section to make it blend in a bit better.

Feels great driving with it on

Will post a pic of the rear when I've tidied it up a bit more. For the wipers I'm going to try and fit them into the roof and have them come down so it's all self contained in the roof with the wires linked to the car by a plug that I can unplug when I want the roof off.

I used wooden templates for the windows, I didn't want a flat screen, wanted something with a bit more dimension so I went for the split screen option.

Aluminium frame with spray foam to get the contours and fibre glass. With the fibreglass around the aluminium skeleton it's very strong.

if you mean the idea of putting the electrics in the roof so it's all easy to unplug etc, I got the idea from someone here myself ^__^

personaly not to my taste, but as for connectors for wipers from RC car racing you can get some "Deans" connectors there polarised so no reverse connetions, good tight fit and can handle 30+ dc12v amps, and there quite cheap from ebay

I like the split screen as its what I have been intending for my build . That or a folding screen. Curious as to what the incline angle and the center angle of the two panes of glass are. Maybe the height as well. I quite like it overall and a good job done.

Thanks

It's been sitting in the loft rafters for about 3 years It wasn't very good, I couldn't weld at the time so it wasn't very strong and I generally didn't know what I was doing. I might have another go at a hard top at some point when I get my car back on the road now that I can weld & fibreglass ^_^

PS - what happened over the last three years that stopped you communicating normally and then only in urban-dictionaryese? I've heard of people getting bumps on the head and thereafter speaking with foreign accents... something similar?
