Tax exemption and doner plates.
I have just obtained a mk1 escort for a doner[really just the vin plates and v5] if i use enough of it to get an age related plate will it be tax
exempt?.

As far as I am aware, tax exept status is only for vehicles that aren't modified. A mate of mine converted his tax exept Landie to coil springs and
was told he either have to lose them or lose his free tax.
An Escort converted to a"7" would probably be classed as "modified" ;(

probably depends on the "Jobsworth" at the DVLA, i know of some that have managed it, think it needs to be pre 72, correct me on the date if i'm
wrong, used to be a rolling 25 years old, but was bought to a halt........

If you do get TE status these days, then either you have a kindly jobsworth, or a stupid one. You might get an age related plate, but the date of
registration is still today, and not before Jan 1st 1973.....
:-(
No TE for us.
Although I do have a 1972 Range Rover, fully rebuilt to 1994 spec that's legally TE
