ID'ing Brake Master Cylinder

I am having great trouble finding out what master cylinder is on my car.

I had always believed it to be from an early model Sierra but my Parts supplier can’t match it and neither can I (By looking through several on-line parts catalogues).

Would be a great help if someone could ID this as it’s the only thing that’s stopping me attempting to get the car through an MOT.

Having the IT abilities of an under 3 prevents me from posting any pictures in the thread, but there are a few in my archive. Mounting holes are 80mm apart and the mounting end of the master cylinder is 40mm in diameter

It does look like a Sierra one but it also looks like a cortina IV master cylinder (also capri)

If only thingwere so simple! i'd also looked at that one.

Close but the outlets look to be on the wrong side and the mounting end is totally different.

Doesn't look different to me, the red ones are where the reservoir bottle pushes onto and the two on the side are the same and should be one underneath at the end.

There wasn't that many types of Master Cylinders for the sierras so still think yours is the Bendix type.

Did you flip the photo as in the ebay adit's theother way round?

Anyway definately not the right one as I have physically checked both types of Sierra Bendix cylinders at my local parts place.

I've just checked on-line and the cortina one looks mighty close, can anyone confim the distance between the mounting holes?

Mcyl ID number

Shandylegs,

Check out the number on the n/s of the mcyl body. This is the casting number; if its a Girling version, this number will be 74660862.

BTW - what's the number moulded into the plastic reservoir?

Checked out this eBay example. It may well be a Bendix version - BUT - be warned, its for a LHD model Sierra (if the eBay pic is correct).

Ford insisted that the mcyl outlet ports had to point inwards, towards the vehicle centre-line.

RHD mcyls for the Sierra will always have their outlet ports on the n/s of the mcyl body.

Sorry forgot to inclde this in my first post. There is a number on the side of the cylinder - 383073.

There is no number on the reservior so to speak only a circular date stamp showing it was manufactured either 9/98 or 9/86 as it can be read either way!

looks similar to mine, which is from D reg sierra - unfortunatley I had a tidy up and deleted some photos in my archive of which the m/c were some.

found some infor. about mine:

The date moulded to the reservoir is 6/82 so matches the Fiesta/Sierra dates.

There is a plethora of what I suspect to be useless numbers, stamped on the body plus on the
plastic tag as follows:
66315 92 38/62
7446(or 8)6(or 8)0862

The diameter of the piston is about 22 mm.

and whaddy know, seems the photos are there too.
