Impreza engine instead of bike engine?

Ok i'm just going to throw this one in as ive been set on the bike engine option but i think i need to discount the car engine first as it has always played in my mind.

Having at one point in my life owned a modified subaru impreza turbo, i keep going back to its power delivery and the way it would pop and bang on overrun. Really addictive.

What do i need to consider here if i was to go this way? Does the car need to be 4 wheel drive? Want to keep it relatively simple. Are costs going to be a lot more?

Anyone had any experience?

You've already answered your own question when you said that "you want to keep it relatively simple"...

If it is a Seven style car that you want then just forget about the Scooby engine and stick a bike engine in it.

its been discussed before ,i think packaging issues are the problem with any 7 type chassis

my mate is into scoobies big time, so ive chatted with him loads about it. You could weld up the 4wd part and stick it in the back of a middy. Best acording to him is a legacy block with imprezza heads. Theres no way it will fit into the front of a 7 clone.

Also, being flat, the exhausts are underneath so it wont sit as low as you might think.

However, it is some very cheap power!

If i was good enough at machining (or indeed, any good at all!) i would love to make a lambo style mid engined 4wd car. Would take some bodging though!

I have considered the murtaya but i'm thinking about that whole power to weight concept. To much going on in the murtaya although nice concept

As I have said before on here a much better packaging option for our type of cars with similar power output to Scubi and as cheap as it is either the T4 or T5 Volvo engine.

Arent the T5 lumps pretty big? or am I barking up a tree that I don't understand?

I had been toying with the idea of a Rover engine, the 2 litre turbo. Working only on the assumption that people can fit K series into MK Indy's so surely the T series will fit too? I've seen a few R200 bubbles with the T series engine...

oh dear , you mention rover and volvo in the same paragraph .

volvo will surpass your scoobydoo cheapness by a gazillion and not actually fall apart . it might even come with a rwd gearbox .

Nice enough engine, but they are extraordinarily heavy! I think they must have cast the block from uranium!

I think the impreza would be a giggle in a kit car but thats a lot of power to put down onto the tarmac when the boost floods in. What sort of use do you want from the car? as a general rule if its track days id keep down the bec route. If its more of a tourer a v8 and inbetween zetecs, mx5s etc. Always a hard decision good luck.

I must say that is the best looking amphibious car I've seen to date. It looks as though it handles reasonably well too

If you want relatively easy and cheap Jap power then go for the Nissan engine out of the 180 or 200sx. RWD and turbo as standard with Jap reliability and tuneability. 200-300 bhp for £1-2k
