Front tow hook
I've gotta get my car to my new garage... in a hurry!
Don't want to pay to have it transported so current plan is to tow it.
I have no tow hook and would like to use a sprung tow bar I have, rather than a rope.
Has anyone fitted a tow hook at the front?
Basically I'm looking for clever ideas.
I've gone from ideas of just a simple hook welded on the front to a bolt-on bar that attaches to a wishbone bolt.
Due to my somewhat unusual chassis design it seems blinkin' difficult to come up with something appropriate... and the car's finished so
trying to avoid welding if at all possible!

Can you weld on a ring to a suspension bolt and replace one just for the towing. At least you can swap it over as and when you want.
By the way is it taxed and insured otherwise towing is illegal.

I'm assuming that your car isn't road legal at present. If that is the case it's an offence to tow to anywhere. You will need to
either have it transported or take a chance and risk getting stopped by the traffic police who are only ever around where you don't want
them.

Hi James,
I always fit a hook to the front of my cars mainly because I'm a pessimist or perhaps my background of trials driving. seriously, it's
good for winching the car onto the trailer.
On the Phoenix, I made a U bolt from 8mm stainless steel and fitted it to the front chassis lateral tube.
I've been trawling my pictures but none show it very well. I'll attach the only one that does show it.

What about one of those U clamps that fit satelite dishes to the pole round the front?

How about pestering your local bodyshop, for an old bumper iron, as most have a tapped insert for tow eyes.
Then find what model its from and get a toweye to screw in.
Thats what ive done, but done mine in reverse, as some of our new cars come with a spare screwed in front bumper.

Best option to me would be borrowing a trailer?
Where abouts in surrey are you. (im in the midlands however, sorry)

I fitted an exhaust clamp U bolt to the panel below the radiator on mine.
Ive never actually towed with it but have used it for winching onto a trailer a few times.

you can use some nylon webbing looped around a front botton chassis rail.
I always used this on my race cars.
You can cut off a peice of webbing from a ratchet tie down strap, make a loop (tie a good knot) and double it over the part you want to tow from.
You will need to use a tow rope rather than a towing bar if you use this method. The tow ropes with a stretch part in the middle will be o.k. and they
usually have a snap hook to snap straight onto the webbing loop.

we had this problem with my dads 1962 sprite, it didn't have a towing eye.
So we took the front bumper off and used some angle iron and u clamp to make something to attach the tow bar too.
Worked well too, but i wouldn't try towing anything modern from the bumper mounts!
I would use a u clamp attached to your car securely somehow.
