I want to make a few filler shapes for the roof of my car before I glue the headliner over them...

But... The foam I have at the moment is the pink insulation type stuff that reacts to Polyurethane glue (And others) ... This is not ideal!!


Is there any commonly available sandable/shapeable foam that can tolerate glue and resins?

You need to use polyester foam with styrene resins or styrene foam with polyester resins.
If you use the same i.e. styrene foam with styrene resin/filler, they will melt.
The down side of this combination is that most polyester materials are dearer than styrene based products.
You just have to figure out which way around will be cheapest.

Get ye to a florists. Get some floral oasis. By all accounts (not tried it myself yet but I've bought it and it's in the garage!!) it's fine with polyester and epoxy resins.

And it's very easy to sand....

Polyurethane foam is the stuff (similar to builders expanding foam). Available from GRP stockists either as a liquid or in pre made sheets.

If you go with the above oasis florists foam suggestion then make sure you get "wet" oasis which is green and not "dry" oasis which is browny/grey. The dry stuff will just crumble. It's quite an expensive way of doing it though if you have a large area to fill.

Well certainly the cost of floral oasis at most florists will make you suspect daylight robbery!!!!

If you're near anyone who makes surfboard blanks for shaping well - surfboards - that stuff is great. Very high tolerances for boards, so they often have offcuts or bits to give away...
