afj - 10/11/08 at 11:10 AM

so which shall i get, all i play is car racing and 1st person shooters, maybe the odd game of football your opinions please

Mr Whippy - 10/11/08 at 11:38 AM

I have the 360, it's good with plently of games but it is noisey (seems to be the disk drive) and does not do Blueray. The graphics is very good but I think the PS3 is even better. All I tend to play is war shoot em ups and I love it but if HD is your thing then get the PS3

hellbent345 - 10/11/08 at 12:03 PM

i have an xbox 360, i love it, i almost exclusivley play racing games and its really good for it, only trouble is windows based so sometimes crashes, just keep it somewhere it can cool itself (ie no cupboards) otherwise great, and its a lot cheaper than ps3 - you do have to pay for playing with others online though, but there is a far bigger online community with xbox

twybrow - 10/11/08 at 12:09 PM

PS3!!!

afj - 10/11/08 at 12:19 PM

not so worryed about cost but i do enjoy some online COD4 and if it maters it will be played on a 40'' sony full hd

phoenix70 - 10/11/08 at 12:28 PM

If your looking to play Online, then it has to be the XBOX360, brilliant online community. Good range of games (Forza 2 is superb)

Oh and I am biased as I have a 360

Cheers

Scott

You might as well ask CEC or BEC! The only answer you'll get out of anyone is a recommendation for what they bought themselves.

So PS3

bigpig - 10/11/08 at 12:30 PM

I've got both (& a Wii). If you ever play on line, its a 360 all the way. I've only found 2 games worth getting specifically for the PS3 (Metal gear solid & little big planet).

Up to now all the games I've tried play better on the 360, on line and off line.

I play both on a HD TV.

I rather like COD4, & gears of war 2 is rather good.

As far as I know is that new PS3s are not currently PS2 compatible, though there is supposed to be a downloadable software emulation (initial consoles came with emotion chips, mine came with software emulation which is fine).

If you do enjoy on line the £3 a month (it works out to be if you shop around) for Xbox live is worth it.

hmm never played my 360 online as I don't have a landline... sounds good fun though

omega0684 - 10/11/08 at 01:38 PM

PS3 HANDS DOWN! Much better system, graphics are much much better! and you get blue ray player!

afj - 10/11/08 at 02:39 PM

so is the blue ray player part any good, as that may swing it in favour of the ps3

johnston - 10/11/08 at 03:56 PM

I got the Ps3 mainly because I like gran turismo etc

But also because couple of fellas i worked with were hardcore gamers and had both one also has the wii, psp, nintendo ds they reckoned the ps3 was the better it just needed more games..

Burnout in paradise is good and they keep expanding it with downloads.

Another thing I noticed on a forum for just 1 game ( i didnt register honest was just looking tips) was upgrades for the ps3 version were free but xbox gamers had to pay for them!!

Meeerrrk - 10/11/08 at 06:01 PM

XBOX360!

Had one, traded it in for a PS3, tried to like it, ended up trading it in a week later and buying another XBOX360.

Really didn’t like it in comparison which is strange because i was always a Playstation man.

that little exercise cost me bear amounts of money i assure you!

stevebubs - 10/11/08 at 06:01 PM

I bought an xbox about 8 months ago.

Originally really wanted a PS3 so I could keep my beloved PS2 games. The removal of the PS2 emulation removed that.

Hence I ended up with the 360 as it had more games and was a hell of a lot cheaper.

Burnout Paradise is definitely awesome and the updates are definitely free on the 360...can't wait for the Island update....

stevebubs - 10/11/08 at 06:02 PM

oh... and the new version of the xbox dashboard is supposedly due out on the 19th.

Brings a totally new look and adds wii-like avatars...

Yes very good and definitely worth the extra. And PS3's dont keep dying all the time either.

PS3 everytime my lads mate has an Xbox and all he seems to do is change the batteries in the controllers. PS3 are rechargable worth its weight in batteries

Liam - 10/11/08 at 09:44 PM

I'm getting a PS3 for xmas!! Has to be PS3 for the bluray player, GT5 and the freeview addon thingy to turn it into a hard-drive TV recordingy thingy (will save me having to have a media centre edition PC box in the lounge).

Of course a 60GB version from ebay is the ONLY way to go for the PS2 emulation and card readers. Suitably upgraded with a 320GB laptop drive I should think too

PS3 all the way!

The new one is 80Gb...repalced the 40 about a month ago.

The graphics are better, its a more powerful machine, it does blu-ray and upscales normal DVD's too.

But, as mentioned above, is castrated just like the 40Gb was. Not a problem if you dont have a library of much loved PS2 games, but since I do I'll be getting hold of a 60Gb PS3

Marcus - 11/11/08 at 12:48 PM

PS3 all the way for me. Colin Mcrae Dirt, motorstorm, wipeout HD, GT5 concept, all bloody awesome. Now forget all those games and buy little big planet. You'll have a hoot!!
Play TV (HD recorder) is cool, and don't forget the ultimate accessory, the PSP.

afj - 12/11/08 at 12:07 PM

thanks everyone i think im going the ............................PS3 route

With the 360 you have the choice. I have a standard recharge pack + used to use normal rechargables.

On the plus side of the PS3 I've actually found a game worth playing now (Little Big Planet). Its no too bad, plays quite well.

I'm quite interested in Resitance 2 but it depends on if the on line play is any good.

The new 360 dashboard is a bit of a pain, nice and fast but its just getting used to it. I spend most of my time in the pop up guide to navigate.

If you want to play on line its the 360 all the way. Sadly I can't find anything really specific that makes the PS3 stand out. I'm probably only turining on my PS3 for an hour or so a week.

Just remember the newer PS3s ain't PS2 compatible at present (its supposed to come as a download later).

In the end its what you are going to be happy with though.
