I've never had a mac, but now I'm involved in publishing, everyone I work with uses them.

I've always avoided them in a sort of "beatamax video" kind of a way, but now I need a new 'puter.

Anyone want to talk me in to it?

Working for Renault who used macs for everything, I used to view pc's in the same way as betamax videos!

All i will say is i use macs for work and home. I was a sceptic for a long time, but now i will never buy a pc again.

I use both (but never normally admit to to mac...).

Both have their uses and work well. The mac has just as many updates etc as the PC and works well for the kind of apps I run on it (photoshop, office, internet etc.) but I still prefer the PC! I would be reluctant to recommend a mac but would struggle to argue against getting one as well... (plus you can can run XP Vista on it as a "Bootcamp" second OS or using something like paralells to run bot OS's at the same time - which is actually kinda cool.... Best of both worlds!

i've never owned a mac, used them at school many moons ago, and i think what you ned to remember is, only apple build them, so the software etc can be written for specific machines, not like PCs where everyone and his dog makes them, out of all sorts of bits, so things quite often never work as well as they're supposed to.

I had this problem about 4 years ago - and very cautiously bought a Mac - now I wouldn't even consider using a PC again. I have to run the odd bit of software at work (very esoteric stuff - running DNA/RNA sequencers!) which you can only get for PC - so then I run windows on the Mac - I can have both operating systems running on the same machine - and as its easy to dual screen - have one OS per screen, and you can then drag and drop between them.

There is also a lot of really useful software that is only available for Mac (eg Papers)....

No viruses (OK they are theoretically around, but very rare) - no malware, does what you want it to do, when you want it to.... Do it - you'll not regret it....

i use both but if i had to choose would go for the mac everytime!

The only slight disadvantage of the mac is that it does not run Microsoft office quite as well as the PC.

They make up for this however with fantastic integration of their programs.

Mac every time, although it does depend on what it is going to be used for. Video and graphic editing type stuff will run rings round pc's. Internet i suppose they are as good as each other although you don't seem to get viruses on mac's. I have had a mac now for 4-5 yrs and it is fantastic. Although if you need to run word and powerpoint these programs are very expensive for mac. Apple do their own, Pages and Keynotes which are much better than MS, the problem will be if you need to say move a presentation from mac to a pc. I wouldn't buy anything else. They are more expensive but they are worth the investment.
