Looking to get a new laptop at the end of the year but what one.
dont do gaming but watch movies so need a minimum 16" has to be quick thinking dual processor? and plenty storage. I notice some of the
vaio's have HD are they any good.
anything without vista... Or if you have to get something with vista, roll it back to xp pro as soon as possible

although i don't think microsoft have admitted vista is crap, apparently they will stop supporting it soon, and there won't be many updates
available for it. yet they will continue to support XP.

Blake - Where did you hear that from? I'd be VERY surprised if that were the case!
Don't understand why people slate Vista. I beta tested it pre-releas and have never had an issue with it. It's on all the PC's in the
house ( two PC's and two laptops) and there's never been any issues on any of them. It does need lots of RAM but then so does OSX, and so
does each new release of any O/S compared to the previous version.
Well i own a computer store so dont take to much notice of what i say.
windows vista is a brilliant opperating system, but it does need the correct hardware to run on though.
as for buying a laptop its a balance between quanity and quality, spend £450 or more and you should be ok.
personaly i loved windows 98, ,,,, but i'm not still using it.
I think Vista is brilliant, as whilst using it I have found that my levels of patience have increased, it now take me a least 5 minute before I get
Pixxed off whereas it use to be a couple of minutes.
Definitely get one without Vista, its poor and uses half of all its ability processing power etc just to run the operating system, XP all day long
you could always run windows 3.1
i have a old p90 here with 8meg of ram it should run like a rocket
just the repeated warnings "are you sure you want to install this?" - does NOT require the whole screen to go black for 2 seconds, then pop
up with a dialogue, and then when you click the dialogue, the screen goes black again and then returns to normal....
Then it happens again when something else wants to install...
It takes about 4 minutes to shut down
the latest version of internet explorer blocks out so many public wifi logon pages or sites with security exceptions that it's near impossible to
get on the net... - the xp pro laptops or vista laptops with firefox get around this straight away...
where the hell is my computer? Hidden away in the start menu somewhere....
Why do some applications or user accounts on vista, block you from installing trusted apps like office because "it might be dangerous" so
instead, you have to right click on the installer and select "install as admin" or something to that effect - what was wrong with double
clicking and just running it's course as normal?
The reason I've listed some of the above points is because we regularly have to rig a laptop, projector and screen across 10-15 seminar rooms on
the conferences which we run... when you have to go through the motions of the above 15 times, vista becomes very tedious, compared with the older xp
laptops which connect to wifi straight away, boot up fully in 20-30 seconds and don't constantly try to protect you from yourself...
It's quicker for us to roll all our laptops back to xp pro than it is fecking around trying to work out how to make vista do something, which
took 3 seconds on xp... I'm not a fan personally but it's probably brilliant for some people

Seems a fair bit of kit for the money and plays blue ray DVD's if your into that.

So now that we have established that i should go for either XP, Vista, win3.1, win 2000 but dont exclude Apple OS. what Laptop should i get to run any of the above
Ive just bought a Samsung Q210 laptop. Its got a good graphics card (for a laptop) so will run HD movies and any games ive tried so far.
I wanted a smaller one as I travel alot with work and dont want to be lugging a massive one around so went for a 12.1" screen. But it has a HDMI
out port so can plug it in to my HD telly. If you dont have an HD telly get one with SVideo out so you can plug into scart. 320GB HDD and 3Gb Ram is
plenty too.
As for Vista after reading bits on here I was ready to roll it back to XP as most laptops come with Vista now. But after using it for a while it seems
fine. There are a few bad points mainly the start menu takes a bit of getting used to but there are lots of good points and features.
At first I did find the pop ups annoying every time you install a program but I just turned off the User Account Control under windows security.
I actually find Vista easier to use for networking, much better than the XP laptops we also habe. I have trouble networking printers for example.
I would go with Vista everytime, I used Windows 2000 for awhile recently. And it is really out of date nowadays.

Agree with that, I would particularly recommend Toshiba, I'm using one now and will get one next time too
