Im thinking of buying a new laptop at the start of the year but dont know which operating system i should get, any thoughts. Hoping people will reply
with what laptop to buy
. If your unsure what i mean check out thread What Laptop.
I think you will be hard pushed to find one with out vista.
Dell do some with ubuntu which is a LINUX system
Dell have some very good offers at the moment starting from £230 ex VAT. For a full size laptop. They have different ranges you can spec up so im sure
you will find one with a 16" screen.
(See your theory worked!)
Apple Macbook.... come over to the dark side
OSX on a macbook...
Since I got my Pro I have never looked back. And for those stubborn programs that are Windows only, boot camp!
I got 'parallels' on my new intel mac mini so I can run OSX and XP simultaneously
You can get new laptops without an OS - or with the one you want - from the likes of Novatech. You can still buy Win XP if you want to re-install
over Vista. My limited experience of Vista is that it is good on a new system designed for it - in fact I am led to believe that some new vista
laptops are difficult to reinstall XP onto because you can't get the XP drivers (eg new Acer laptops). I think only Vista Business comes with an
XP (pro) 'downgrade' option.
The real answer is get a macbook. You can run windows either natively via bootcamp or simultaneously using parallels. But once you get used to Mac
OS you won't look back.
If you want a lap top that will work all the time and don't want any problems, buy a mac. Had mine for 4yrs and it is brilliant.
Also Macophile - you won't believe the difference til you try it!
I've never bought a mac and I've never looked back
I've got a Compaq Laptop - it's quick enough. Quite quick, decent graphics and reasonable battery life. But it's Vista, whilst
it's pretty, it makes the machine much slower than it should be - personally I'm getting well pee'd of by Microshaft to dominate the
world I would very likely not consider buying another PC or Laptop with their software on it.
I would and will buy a MAC next time with no hesitation.

Yes Macs are nice and they are pretty good, my sister got one for free by being dyslexic and doing a arts uni course!
Its pretty cool but i don't think its that much cooler than a PC when you take into account how much they cost. You could get a REALLY nice
laptop for that sort of money.
