Hi all,
More problems, at least this time its car related! My wifes friend has brought a VW polo Mk3 I think it is. Its R reg at least!
Anyway when you pull away with a small or large amount of lock it makes groaning noises similar to "whale song" it will also make the same
noise but a bit fainter at full lock at slower speeds.
There is no noise at higher speeds. If it was a rattle or knock i would say it was a CV joint. but this is a noise i haven't heard a car make! It
also does it in both directions.
So any ideas at what it could be? I am assuming its to do with the suspension or steering. Any help in addition to the idea of getting a bumper
sticker saying "my car speaks whale"?
Cheers
has it got pas?could be the pump, other than that look in the boot to see if there is a whale in there
my vote is power steering related and wouldnt worry as the old mans mk4 golf makes the same noise and has done for a few years now and there has not been a problem apart from the noise, oh and the car is now up2 220K miles and no fluid has been lost or anything, i would just leave it alone and live with it
yes i thought power steering too, but it is a manual rack, well that or the power steering is knackered! But i would expect the steering to be heavier
than what it is! Did have a look but it was dark.
What would you expect a R reg 1.4 CL Polo to have? Would be nice if it was the pump, should be fairly easy to sort and nothing to worry about.
my bet is it actually does have PAS and the fluid level is low. So what your hearing is the air going through the pump bi-pass valve on full lock
PAS is making sense at the mo, I may pop round and see if i can find the reservoir! would be nice if its really that simple.
The friend of my wifes asked for my help in getting her first car and i said not french, italian or from ebay. All stuff that I have done! It is a
nice car tho, quite high spec for a polo.
i had a new passat about 3 years ago did the same from new should worry
well i nipped over and had a look at the car, this time with a torch, well it has power steering! The reservoir is empty so hopefully all it needs is
a top up.
Thanks everyone
