3 car fantasy garage: sub £20k exotica, sub £2k to beat my sub £2k on quarter mile & a guilty pleasure
paul the 6th - 21/12/08 at 01:58 PM

I've had a nice weekend all to myself and the house is in a right state. Takeaway cartons and beer cans everywhere. Lovely

The missus is due back in a few hours and I should probably be tidying up to save ear ache, but I'm not. I'm playing fanatasy garage! The criteria are easy:

1) one car for under 20 grand which would stand out like cojones on a bulldog at a club meet...

2) one car for less than 2 grand which would whoop the above posters 2 grand car on a quarter mile... (I'll start off on this one)

3) one car which is a guilty pleasure. You shouldn't like it because it's absolutely horrendous but for no reason whatsoever, you love it...

I've found these 3 on the trader...

under £20k exotic:
Lancia Delta HF Integrale, 44 000 miles (the red one) - £19,500

2 grand quarter mile car:
Saxo VTS, 44 000 miles, lowered - £1650 (would use the £350 change to tint the windows and put some CHAV graphics across the rear bumper, maybe a massive exhaust or an exhaust trim if there was any money left after that)

Guilty Pleasure:
Nissan Almera GTI ) I used to be a bit of a stupid boy racer when I was a youth if you haven't guessed

Just a bit of a laugh and a time waster, but the sub £2k quarter mile car was harder than I realised. Thought I'd found a lancer evo but it was £2,495

Under £20k exotic:
Ferrari 348TS
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/FERRARI+348/advert.action?R=200850325027915

or
Maserati Shamal (no Shamal's on autotrader so listing a Ghibli instead which is almost the same apart from engine/wings/wheels).
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/MASERATI+GHIBLI/advert.action?R=200845322805059

2 grand quarter mile car:
Difficult to beat a HF off the line with a 2wd car, but this should have a shot (literally, with N2O) when it gets going. Civic VTi with Nitrous.

Guilty Pleasure:
Lotus Elan SE Turbo

Nice @ ferrari (and for under 20 grand!)

bastard @ civic with nos

and not bad @ lotus elan turbo

Anymore for anymore? Will be difficult to beat that civic for under £2k... (might have a stab at that one myself)

£1,295 MR2 Turbo, thats from a dealer !!!

1/4 mile time is about 14 seconds, this coincidentally is also the 0-100 mph time. 0-60 is about five and a half seconds then add a zener diode on the fuel rail and reduce these by 1 second as an extra 30 bhp is released.

mark chandler - 21/12/08 at 03:32 PM

yikes, great minds I recon

paul the 6th - 21/12/08 at 04:30 PM

I once saw a jap'd up mr2 turbo (hks everything and tuned to feck) do the fastest quarter mile of the day at york raceway... The car had so much torque that the boot popped open when he dumped the clutch to set off. It was absolutely ridiculous and sounded like it was ripping the atmosphere...

Nearly to budget, and I'm sure if you tried you could get one cheap enough.

10 sec qtrs all day long

Yeah not quite a car, but you want quick, you do away with a couple of wheels (and 3/4 ton) for that money.

Have to think about the others

Under 20K:

Saab 96 2stroke (my all time favourite car) Much less that 20k though (3-5k mark?) So I could spend £15,000 on bright signs, fireworks, free beer and scantily clad models so that it stands out even more.

Charade GTti £550. £1450 to play with ^__^

mookaloid - 21/12/08 at 10:06 PM

1) something like MASERATI 4200 Cambiocorsa

2) Easy - I'd build a Locost

3) Alfa Romeo GT 3.2 V6

lol @ build a locost. Just wondering mark, what would you do with the change from the £19,999 maserati? I'd probably go for a cadburys whisper and a packet of space raiders...

mookaloid - 22/12/08 at 11:21 PM

Totally with you on the whisper bar but what are space raiders?

paul the 6th - 23/12/08 at 12:45 PM
