years ago, someone told me that you can put a pint of diesel in your oil and run the car as normal. it keeps the system lovely and clean, doesn't
build up any sludge, and you can leave it in there.
does this sound right? has anyone ever come across this or tried it before?
I dunno about leaving it in there but Wynns engine flush lists diesel as one of its ingredients.
Could imagine that thinning the oil with diesel for long periods would lower the film strength and lessen bearing life Wynns and others put a max
mileage which I cant remember but its not far.

Why not just run on diesel engine oil, its usually top spec and has a detergent in it to keep your innards nice
Why would you want to do something that might ruin your engine in very short order when running a good quality oil changed regularly will give you
excellent engine life?
Modern engines are very oil quality dependant with tolerances way tighter than engines of even a decade or so back that allow outputs and revs in
standard form approaching those of some of the best racing engines of not so long ago - so ask yourself, would you mess with the oil of a high output
racing engine.

Guy I know puts a pint of diesel into the engine oil and runs the engine for 1/2hr at idle before draining the oil out . His engine was spotless inside the rocker cover when I saw it. His father did the same and he was one of the best mechanics I ever knew . Wouldn't drive with diesel in the oil myself but flushing with it should be no worse than some of the additives you can get.
I have always used it as a engine flush its great. Also i used diesel engine oil to do the same job as it has a detergent in it, put it in a sludged up engine and run for a month or so and it will clean it up great.
Yes as a flushing agent. Its High detergent qualities are great.
Trouble is that you need to flush out the diesel thoroughly, as it will wash the clean oil off the engine thus you loose on the lubricating qualities
of the new engine oil.
Mixing detergent and non-detergent oils is a bit of a no-no in my books.

Should never be any need for this kind of trick if the oil and filter is changed regularly.
When castrol GTX first came out many years ago I put some in an thames trader within 5 minutes it was smoking like no-ones bussiness problem was the detergent properties of the oil had washed the goo build up off the valve stems ,guides and bores great in a new car but crap on an high mileage vehicle

All i know, every couple of diesel fuel top up, add a 250ml bottle of engine oil like the one for two stroke engines with it. It keeps the diesel pump
lubricated and lasts longer.
Also, in a complete top up of diesel, if you can add half a litre of petrol will clean up the combustion chamber as well.
I will not be held responcible for anything going wrong if you try it.

Ask anyone who has filled up a diesel with petrol by mistake and driven the car how much better it goes after draining and refilling
