Diesel Particulate Reducing Oil Additive ?? WT* ??

Friend of mine has a Fiat Ulysses (nearly disowned him for it) and a warning light has come on.
The handbook says Particulate Reducing Oil is low, refer to dealer service. Neither of us have
ever heard of this before so he contacts the main stealer who quote £35/litre, 2 hours labour
and it takes 3 litres
They won't sell it for him to do quoting COSH regulations..

So.......

What the hell is it.....
Where is the tank.....
Are they talking rot about COSH

I heard something about stuff that goes somewhere in the exhaust from an ex pug parts man..

apparently a pian of a job as its a slow feed or something..

Hi,

Sounds like a bit of bad translation in the manual. Its actually a fuel additive. The engine in the Fiat is a peugeot one. Even if you did purchase the fluid, topping up the tank wont put the light out, it need to have the additive counter in two separate ECUs reset.

its basically a catalyst which reduces the temp at which you regen particulate filters .

Q3-Yes he is talking rot. COSH is to do with the registration of chemicals not being unable to sell them to Joe public.

its an addative that gets put through the cat after several drive cycles and is done by the ecu.If its like a ford then it has to be put on there ids diagnostic machine to be reset once the level of the tank has been refilled.The oil is a thick browny orange colour and can be quite nasty if got and left on your skin

My truck mechanic neighbour was talking about this stuff the other day, greek to me!!

He says the new DAF trucks have "pig p155" additive tanks on them.

Apparently they call it pig p*** and its proper name is "addblue" which goes in the cat and reduces emmisions

As already said it is a liquid catayst which cleans and reconditions the particulate filter, the engine ECU releases into the system at pre-set intervals.

COSHH dosen't prevent the sale of chemicals it is about the identification of potentially hazardous chemicals in the work place and the setting up of proper procedures for reducing the exposure of workers and the public too those hazards.

All substances used in the work place come under including for example washing up liquid or even distilled water.

I've seen "addblue" pumps next to the hgv diesel pumps at filling stations. Wondered what it was! (Initially I thought addblue might be a screen wash! But I guess not even HGV's need enough screen wash to have it on tap!).

Funnily enough (re Pig Pi$$) Adblue is actually made of urea (Wikepedia says its AUS32 Aqueous Urea Solution 32.5%). Urea is one of the main ingredients in urine. So there may be some truth in that there nickname!!

don't seem to be too bothered about CoSH regulations They'll sell you an IBC full of the stuff.

After all it's mostly watered down urine

Jeez! Just had a look on that site. 85p per litre from Adblue direct compared to (if it is exactly the same stuff) £35/litre from Fiat!!!
