I've just driven back up to uni after Christmas with the car loaded up and opened the door this end to be greeted with a very loud hissing sound. I initially thought it was a leaking gas main, as the pavement has been dug up all along the road for gas main work, but quickly realised it was my OSR tyre.

Judging by the rate it was exiting the tyre and the fact that when I first checked the tyre didnt seem to have lost much pressure at all I can only assume it was picked up VERY near the end of the journey, quite possibly having picked something dropped by the work men. I have yet to take the wheel off to see what it is but assuming it turns out to be something very likely to have dropped, do you reckon I've got a leg to stand on in getting a claiming the cost of a replacement tyre from them? I fear that I'm just lacking any hard evidence (unless of course the cause is a whole gas valve!)

I wouldn't have minded so much had it been a front as I'm just about to change those anyway, theyre a relatively expensive tyre size, the fact I'm due to be driving to autosport tomorrow morning and the spare is a little, erm, suspect...

would say no chance unless as you say what ever is in the tyre is stamped with british gas!

Yes yes OK, anger has now receded and sense prevailed. It was a dirty great big screw that must have been there for at least a mile or so anyway judging by the wear to it.

Pretty sure a repair wont be possible as it's too close to the side wall. Been refused a repair before for one further from the sidewall. Looks like a new pair of tyres for the rear too then, hey ho...

Post a picture ! I've have one repaired close to the sidewall, but still in the tread mind.....
