Is it really any less a production car than that Caterham they had on? Doubt Caterham build a parking lot full of R500s and hope they sell, to be honest! In fact I'm sure even the big boys must set production levels to match some kind of sales predictions/orders, even if those predictions are currently proving a little high due to economic circumstances resulting in actual parking lots full of unsold cars
