Revcounter rant / problem
clairetoo - 14/1/09 at 09:45 PM

I thought I'd sorted my lack of a working rev counter when I bought an ex-display 100 mm / 8000 rpm VDO one from Europa at Stafford show last year for the bargain price of just £50
But I couldnt get it to read more than 600 rpm , no matter how I connected it .
So I returned it to Europa , who sent it back to VDO , who binned it as they say it is `discontinued` .
The thing is - there are plenty of suppliers still listing this model , and it's what I want (plus I happen to have a 100mm hole in my carbon dash)
The best price I have found is just £80 (inc shipping) from Summit (USA) - do I just take a chance on import duty , and order from the states ?
Or carry on looking at a hole in the dash with assorted wiring hanging out of it

You are almost certain to fall foul of import duty, plus a carrier's handling charge. Probably bring you up to the same price as in the UK.

I got away with duty on my Jaw order [about £60].

Dunno if I was just lucky?

Well I don't imagine the whole batch are knackered. I suspect VDO just couldn't be bothered to repair a discontinued line. I'd try buying another one from a different vendor. Just make sure their returns policy is good!!!

Don't know about the UK, but I bring in lots of parts from the USA by mail and customs usually miss them, by courier you get nailed every time as well as customs house charges.
