Bike tb's on tintop?
speedyxjs - 21/1/09 at 06:37 PM

Last week i had a lecture about carbs and throttle bodies. Then i heard my lecturers car (1.4 saxo on tb's) and fell in love with the sound.
Now i want to fit tb's to my Jag but dont know where to start. As far as i can tell, if i get bike tb's i can leave the injectors where they are and wont need to move them to the intake. I will also need a new inlet manifold.
What would be the best tb's to use and where can i get them from (cost may be a slight issue)?
Also can i make the inlet (is it simple) or do i need to have one made?

6 cylinders? Then I propose 2 sets off a Triumph triple. That way theres only I linkage to fix and your nearly there.

BODIES!

Get some steel plate and tube and make your own inlet. If your feeling flush get Bogg Brothers to make you one

XJ6 or XJ8?

If you're thinking of the seven, then definately doable on a straight six. My manifold (pinto) cost me £15 plus a half an hours machining. I used an inlet manifold gasket as a template, then got it TIG welded up. Just check the gasket is accurate first!

Materials were a plate and tube to match the ITBs.

XJ6. Tintop. The seven is going on carbs.

If you use the same Triumph `bodies I used , then all you need to make is an adapter plate and fuel rail , and you'l probably need to extend the linkages.
T595 I think - early ones ISTR

They will play havoc with the engine diagnostics I would have thought, my xjs with a 4.0litre engine kicked up lots of error codes with just a K&N filter added.

The most common codes were Lambda related when floored.

How does the current ecu measure engine load? If it's a MAF or AFM sensor measuring airflow then you'll need to either keep the sensor and duct the airflow through it and to the bodies (almost totally destroying any benefit and sound from doing it in the first place), or change to an ecu with either MAP or throttle position for the load input.

I have a K&N Filter atm and have had no probs. The MAF could be an issue but there must be a way round it as i have seen pics of EFI Jag engines on TB's.

for the xj6 i wouldn't even start...

But if you want to do it, why not do it to the seven?

I want carbs on the seven Its simpler.
I was considering carbing the tintop but too many probs with the cat (its a 97 car)
