BMW Z4
scootz - 25/1/09 at 02:46 PM

Bought one of these when they first came out (got a cracking deal as I was working out of the EU on a Diplomatic basis... saved 34% on new list price ).

I bought it straight from the brochure, having never actually seen one in the flesh before.

When it arrived I thought it looked, well, awkward, so I moved it on pretty quick.

Anyway...

The thing is, I think I now 'get' the design and have gone from pangs of regret at having sold it all those years ago TO WANTING ONE RIGHT NOW!

This seems to be a common thing for BMW - the styling takes time to grow!

Take the X3 for instance - a universally panned car... now look at every mid-size SUV - every one of them has followed the X3 design cues 2-3 years later.

Anyone else have any opinions on Bangle-BMW's... especially the Z4.

Exactly the same with the Z4, when it came out... urgh! I much preferred the Z3. Then suddenly recently I thought... actually, they're really nice

It's just little things that I never really saw before... the 'Z' cut into the side for example - you know it's there, but you don't really appreciate the design that went into it!

Never really looked at the Z3 in detail then had one in my garage and you start to appreciate the shape. A lovely looking car.

I had a 2.5 and an ///M Z4 the latter was awesome although build quality could have been better for money.

You can pick a 2 yr old ///M now for 20K [43K new....]

That's what's re-ignited my interest!

Not sure I'd go for an M though... just a bit too gutsy to justify! The 3.0SI is a great engine and would do me fine (34mpg too!).

andy has owned his for about 2 years now with plenty of Ring trips under its belt too, just been out in it this weekend, lovely car.

Hairdresser's car (not that I have anything against hairdressers, as long as they are female)

Was never a fan of the Z3 but liked that shape M Coupe/Roadster.

Always liked the Z4 since the launch, but I have been a fan of most of the Bangle designed BMWs.

As for the new M roadster, I love the look of the car with the hard top and wide rear end. I was out in my Indy when I first saw one a way up ahead. I went flat out just to try and catch a glimpse to see what it was.

I met 6 speed at castle coombe, his car was great and I liked his plate too;

UR02SLO ..... stuck in my mind.

Not sure I'd lump the Z4 in the 'hairdresser' basket...

260bhp
Rear Wheel Drive
And crucially to the 'hairdresser' tag... it's not cute!

If it had to be sexed, then I would say it was definitely a bloke!

I would.

It's not so much the car, it's the people who drive them. They don't even know what 'driven wheels' are, let alone which end they are at.

All they know is that it's a two seater BMW convertible, and visibly more expensive than an MX5 (ok, so a rich hairdresser's car )

Is that a question?

If it is then you've pretty much answered it
