Having bought and sold a few things on e-bay without any problems whatsoever, it was inevitable that one would eventually turn sour.
I bought a shower pump from a guy on e-bay. I couldn't wait for the auction to end and offered him a 'buy it know' price via e-mail. He
accepted the offer and asked me to pay through Paypal which I did. However, he didn't go through the proper e-bay process and just withdrew his
listing.
I picked the pump up the following day and then installed it, only to find that the casings on either end are cracked and leaking. I contacted him by
e-mail and he is adamant that the pump was working and leak free when he sold it to me. I know that I didn't cause it and water stains on the
casing suggest it's been leaking for a while.
I feel like reporting him to e-bay for not selling within their rules and also opening a dispute with Paypal but don't know if it will be worth
the hassle (Caveat Emptor and all that
)
In the meantime I've repaired the split casings by soldering them up but I'm not sure how long they will last and I may end up buying new
casings which I reckon he should pay for.
Any advice?
Phil
Your still covered by paypal just like a credit card.
Mrs did a silly thing a while back bought a to good to be true wii by offering a price like you did, wii never turned up we thought game over but
paypal sorted it.
If you've bought via Paypal you have some protection even if the sale occured outside of Ebay.....
I had something possibly more annoying. I sold a badgers nadgers shower pump for £210 (about the going rate). The person who bought it got a
"plumber" to fit it who said it was clapped and sold them a B+Q special (ie £20 of Chinese tatt) for £100 and told them to ask me for a
refund. I gave them a refund (cos I believed them when they said it was bust). But when I got it home I sprayed some WD40 on the spindle and it was
happy days. I put it on Ebay again and it sold for £90........
Great
If the item hadn't turned up then maybe I'd be successful in claiming a refund but as I collected the pump and had the chance to inspect it
beforehand, I'd be lucky to get anything at all wouldn't I?
Phil
Do it anyway, who knows?
That sucks..... All these horror stories are putting me right off ebay... it used to be a good place 3-5 years ago!
If you still need a shower pump, I have a brand new one that im not using...
