Anyone know any tricks for rejuvenating my lazy Ford Focus gas struts? £30 a pair to replace!
Gary
drill tap and fill with oil.
it been done but i have not done it.
There's a firm in Didcot that does hydraulics and that sort of thing, I remember a guy there telling me that they could do gas struts.

I have the reverse problem, the struts on ours try and launch the tailgate into orbit. One of them is on the verge of pulling it's mounting stud
out of the panel
Its the gas that escapes usually not the oil. You could try contacting a company in Bedford called Gas Strut (suprisingly) they may be able to help.
I dont know, but i would suspect the main reason for gas loss in worn seals, and that by the time you look into regassing and the works, £30 suddenly
seams quite reasonable. Also that production gas struts are basicaly sealed for death.
But let me know how you go, because im planning to have a bit of a mess about with some gass struts for another non-car related lifting/tiopping
job.
- Currently i just have a set of four pug 206 struts that im planning to make work somehow!

Sounds like there's not an easy answer. Maybe I should swap one strut with martyn_16v though :-)
30 pounds a pair --- is not daylight robbery
the struts used for OEM are not rechargeable - as said - sealed for life - if they are used for rear tailgate lifting they are very very powerful items - if you have ever tried to lift a tailgate with no screen fitted they really throw the tailgate open due to the lack of weight on them - i would guess there are different ones for different weights - usually using pretty much the same ball joint fitting on the end
