Ive got a recent mag that has a load of these routes that are not on the point of interest database but I will have to see if I can program them in.
Failing that we could make a pdf with these routes.
What`s your favourite routes ?
Theres some down in Bishop Auckland area as well as the west coast glasgow to fort william in Scotland

To be honest, that doesn't look that great. It looks fairly tedious, hairpin, hairpin, hairpin, hairpin.

It think where the Stelvio pass is concerned, you either "get it" or you don't.

As above.. it looks very repetative....
Some of the alpine roads I drove two summers ago were awsome because they were continuously changing....
Having said that... give me a RWD car and I would happily spend half a day blatting up and down that bad boy!

It's not just the hairpin bit, but the route getting there too. Tried it in the summer last year but the passes were still closed as late as
May.

As featured in the Nov/Dec issue of Total Kit Car 9 of us did this as part of out 2008 Grand £ tour London to Monte Carlo. In the wet it is awsome
but not for the faint hearted.
We will be back in 2009.

geoff shep is right, anybody considering driving the stelvio pass, make sure its open. I took this photo 17th may last year. I wasnt bothered, ive
seen pictures and it doesnt compare to some of the roads and scenery getting there.

I've done the Lotus Elise pilgramige a few times to the restaurant at the top of the Stelvio pass. The other hundred assorted Loti meeting in the
carpark is quite a sight!
Yes that side can be tedious because of all the tourists n bikes but the other side is much better plus the other 5 days and 5 other countries make up
for it!

Being from Guilford all you get is trafic jams and the M25 so I understand your comments.
We are doing the banger ride down to Rome again this year with a few of the boys and we plan our route to take in as many as these spectacular routes
as possible.
Stevlo is open from June onwards
Last year we did the st berny pass with it 6.6 km tunnel so this year for a change we are doing the stevlo on the way back.
Its not just the hairpin bits that are the main attraction but the roads leading to and from these places are simply breathtaking drives.
Problem with most is that they never experience pleasure motoring any more,
and when we are down in England we can see why. Up in Scotland there is stacks of fun roads and we dont get traffic snarl ups as big as the south.
Some of the roads we did last year where breath taking.......boil your bakes and very scary in a righthand drive car (as a driver you could see the
2000 meter drop 3 feet from the car.
Driving can still be fun....

But you do have some of the most annoying speed cameras I've ever encountered - certainly in the bit between Edinburgh and Inverness, anyway.

True but these are not the roads that mango's talking about.
It's a fair comment to make than when we're trying to get from A to B it's pretty boring driving.
You really need to be in no particular hurry ( to get somewhere that is ) in order to enjoy a drive IMHO.

Between Ed and Perth you dont have any fixed cams and you only have to watch out around Kinross.
After that if your satnav has a good database its no problem.
The reason the Inverness road has the number cameras is the summer season. Its loaded with tourists and Tesco trucks ect .
Capacity is stretched as there is a lot of side road crossings.
These lead to the crashes that the road is famous for.
Better to turn off at the distillery and head for Fort William and up the south of the great glen.
A little longer but the road is a fab drive
