The warning light that relates to the automatic gearbox in my M reg Volvo 960 has started flashing. I lifted the bonnet to chect the fluid level but
couldn't find a dipstick/fill tube such as is found on, for instance, an RR Silver Spirit.
So I consult the instruction book and there is no mention of checking the gearbox fluid.
When I got home I noticed the car was smelling a bit and the lights on the switches next to the gearlever were flashing as well.
Haynes don't do a manual for this model, so if anone reading this has any useful info I would appreciate it

I rember reading something about this on Volvos in Car Mechanics magazine about 2 months back but don't have the issue to hand.
Auto transmission oil levels these days tend to be checked by level plug ---- gearbox as to be warmed up properly and car absolutely level.
Modern slush boxes tend to be very sensitive with regard to fluid level, fluid type and fluid changes --- they are nothing loke as tough as the old
B&W transmissions.

May be that the only way to check the oil level is to plug in to diagnostics reader? A lot of Renaults are like that as are others.
follow that FAQ , and you wont go far wrong , its important to go through the gears to get the oil everywhere and fill to the level .
is there an arrow on the dashboard lit up also ?

should be a fault code stored , you need to find out what it is , if you continue driving , you might damage the box further .
if you read the whole of teh FAQ it gives you the fault codes/symptoms and what you can do about them , some simple / some not
Any suggestions as to what would be a suitable fault code reader? I'm not in a position to invest in anything fancy at the moment, BTW
