i refuse to watch that crap new one they made, its not even in italy grrr

but the original is brilliant!

MikeR - 15/2/09 at 11:34 AM

One would hope the (1968) would have given away which film.

Welcome to the club something about that film makes me want to get an old 60s / 70s film and drive to Turin. Can't think what. Now if you've got the special edition DVD, watch the making of. Its fantastic and shows you the power of Fiat back then!

The ending bugs me to death, why couldn't they just drive off into the sunset?

Cheers

Because the end was left deliberately vague so there could be a second one. Unfortunately the film did extremely badly in the states so the follow-up wasn't made (excluding the shitty one a few years back- I believe there was a token gesture to "Italy" in terms of the opening scenes it Venice).... Apparantly one of the reasons it didn't do so well in the states (the original we're talking about here) was that they had a different poster in the states which didn't have the mini's on it for some reason.....

BenB - 15/2/09 at 02:33 PM

Instead they got this in the states:

jlparsons - 15/2/09 at 02:41 PM

I wonder why they chose to call that recent film "the italian job" at all? it wasn't actually a remake, it used the same title, a few minis and a totally different plot. Using the title ensured that a lot of people would hate it immediately as a knock-off and also that those who did go see it would compare it to the '68 film - a battle it was always going to lose. Where's the advantage?? They could have used a different title, fiat 500s, and the film would have been judged on its own merits.

Which shows what I know, of course. Because the 2003 film was a massive commercial success... $176,070,171 worldwide. Can't argue with that.

[Eddie Izzard] If you haven't seen the Italian Job all of this is very funny....... But then, if you haven't seen the Italian Job, you haven't lived. [/Eddi Izzard]

Iv never seen the italian job either. Iv seen the newest one but didnt like it (too many bmw's ).
Iv wanted to see the original for a while but never got round to it.

Anyone who hasn't seen it should be given a good going over, not killed, just given a good going over, with my compliments.

dogwood - 15/2/09 at 03:30 PM

I think James May described the new film very well when he said.
It wasn't set in Italy, It didn't have a Job.
Therefore it should have been called "THE"

There is only ONE italian job in my opinion.
The other film.. they should have blown more than jusy the bloody doors off

Nay nay and thrice nay... the end was left 'open' because the thieves couldn't be seen to prosper. The 'cliffhanger' ending allowed each individual to make their own mind up as to what happened next.

Nay, nay, nay and... erm... frice (?) nay!

Please tell me it was the original you watched? The remake was quite possibly the worst film I have ever seen!

I cannot see the point of remaking old films, they have been made once so why bother? It is not as if there is no new material around for news films.

They remade the Railway Children, why?

Why don't they filmarise one of Ian Banks' SF novels?
