Today I spent around 4 hours repairing the bonnet release mechanism on the wifes tintop.
I made a custom welded bracket, stripped, cleaned and reassembled and then put the car back together.
All this to avoid buying a part costing 16 quid? So was today in the "locost" spirit or a waste of time.
I had a good day though
that is bordering on the side of "muppet in a shed"
you probably had more fun making it than putting up with the attitude from the main dealers
I can think of better ways to use up 4hrs of life - £16 is not a lot of money.
That said I do understand your sense of satisfaction
I will qualify this by saying that the main stealer couldn't get one for around 10 days and the car is going for MOT on Sat morning,
Why buy it when you can make it!
So much more satisfaction fixing something with your own tools and skills.
Any muppet can go down the local main dealer and bolt on a part!
Weld the bonnet shut and PX the car

Depends - if it would have taken 3 hrs to get the old one out drive to the dealer and back, and fit one bought from the dealer its not bad! (I always
have this problem, because it takes an hour to get from my house to the dealer and back... Then you have the wrong bit and do it again.... especially
annoying when they gave me the wrong cam belt and I only found out when I had the car in bits, so had to reassemble with the old oneto drive back in
......)

I bet the one you made is way stronger than the origional, so time well spent I would say.
Definitely Locost. You saved £16.
