it is becomming apparent that im the only person left in the world not on some kind of social networking site, wife, friends family, even the mechs
at work use there dinner break to update their 'profile'.

Actually I joined ages ago, within 24 hours I had contacts from 3 people I didn't want to know years ago, never mind now
There's an option to delete your account that I found pretty quickly
I don't want to have "friends" on the internet, I'd rather switch the PC off and go visit real ones

Facebook is brilliant!
It's a fantastic way of keeping in touch with your mates. There's the odd person I've been friend requested by who I'm not keen on
but you can refuse people if you want.
Agree with UncleFista that it's better to see people in person but that's not always easy.
As well as the Locost I have Savate Kickboxing and TaeKwon-Do training. I have groups of friends through all of these. But I also have lots of other
'civilian' ( ) mates, old school friends, people I know through my girlfriend etc. etc.
I was chatting to a mate the other day arranging for her to come and stay... we can't fit her in until May!!!
You can swop pictures with people, online chat, message, waste time with other Facebook games etc etc.
It just makes it so easy to stay in touch with friends- it's brilliant!

well I am technically on facebook, I could never be bothered with it despite friends saying get on it but between me and my wife started one together
so I am one half of that.
She has got into it more now so uses it for herself now.
But the good thing is people who search for her or me can't find us as our full names aren't on there. Is funny when we meet peeps we
don't really want to keep in contact with we say oh just facebook us.
Saying that peeps do find us via our friends, is amazing how desperate people get to have as many friends as possible on there.
Takes me back to my msm messenger days when people would try and get as many as possible on there profiles.

Well as I’ve mentioned before about this subject, I have worked for company’s (shell being one of them) that I saw using these kinds of sites to check up on job applicants before even deciding to interview them, risk it if you want but count me out

Whilst I do have a Facebook account, for staying in touch with my sons, and one of their games that I take part in.
My concern is all those people who give such in depth details of themselves, and details like address and date of birth etc. Its an Identity theft

Whats more, NOTHING on the Internet has NIL COST. They are making a mint out of these sites.
They own all the data, and probably sell it as trend setting information.
If you think about it, they have the biggest social survey going on there that has ever been done in the world.
What do they do with all this info?
They use it to make more money in the form of using to to adjust things in life. Similar to how they use psychology to lay out the Heinz tins on the
top shelf and Value on the bottom shelf in Shops.
They use OUR information AGAINST US to make .... sorry... EXTRACT more money from our pockets.
Thats what they do with all this information.
The information data is a whole industry in its own right. And Facebook / Bebo / etc etc is all being used for it.
I have no love for them, and no trust for them.
You CANT HIDE in an electronic world.

Tried FaceBook, but couldn't see what all the fuss was about so abandoned it soon after.
The people who I want to remain friends with all have my number, and I have theirs. If we want to talk, we'll call...
I can see it as a way to keep in contact with people you don't see often as you don't have to worry about losing their number etc or if they
move or change mobiles for example.
But, I don't see the point of making friends with peeps that you don't know and playing games and poking people and updating your feelings
everytime you feel like it!
To be honest i spend far to much time on here and other forums as well as ebay to get away with using facebook too.

Well, if you are a school administrator and want to find out what the students are really up to, you go on facebook. All is revealed. People have no
idea where the information is going or who is going to use it.

a lot of the negative opinions surrounding facebook are media fuelled. Privacy options are easily accessed and controlled and have even been updated a
number of times recently to give profile owners even more flexibility.
If you were to search for me on facebook it would appear that I dont exist, you wouldnt even be able to request to add me as a friend. I'm free
to add others though and because my old social groups fragmented due to uni/work its a good way of tying people together.
I also have my young brother as a "friend" but he can only contact me via messages and cant see any of the more private stuff, so there are
even levels of data control.
If facebook sells my anonymous social data however, thats slightly more worrying but unproven and ive not had any targetted spam as of yet!

I too do not have an acccount on face book ( unless my wife has signed me up without me knowing ), why on earth would you want to sit there posting
crap about nothing ( like we are in the thread at the moment) when we could be out in the garage smashing the hell out of a piece of metal for no
apparent reason !!!
Seems to be more of a girlie thing these facebook sites, people can just go on there and gossip, blokes tend to use them for getting a bunkup
Personally i will just stick to the forums that talk about things i am insterested in... like kit cars.

As cd.thompson says - all this anti social networking nonsense is a load of paranoid media-fuelled bo**ocks from people who cant accept change or
understand new technology. If you so desire, no one at all can see anything you dont want them to. Perfectly harmless and useful way to keep in
touch with people and see what they're up to. Not that I've ever got round to adding anything to my profile but a single picture in two
years!

I've not heard from a friend for over 2 weeks since I told him his 6hr visits were too long. I'll phone him sometime ... maybe.
i just seem to spend most of the time on facebook doing the neverending movie quizes.
I like it, it helps keeping touch with all my buddies in the states.
Strange this should come up on the BBC website so soon - not funny for one person though
I'm not on there either.
Being famous, I'd be mobbed, just like I am in real life.
