theconrodkid - 10/2/04 at 02:14 PM

Staple balls - 10/2/04 at 02:39 PM

strange, i can't think of any obvious reasons why it should cause a problem.

how far did it get when you tried to connect?

theconrodkid - 10/2/04 at 03:05 PM

came up with no service straight away, can usb,s be put in wrong holes?

Scotty - 10/2/04 at 03:06 PM

no
the computer treats all usb as same

Scotty - 10/2/04 at 03:08 PM

i have heard that messenger can be really fussy about the web cam itself, what make is it ?

theconrodkid - 10/2/04 at 03:10 PM

make is hi cam, made in taiwan so gota be good

Scotty - 10/2/04 at 03:11 PM

mmmmmm
got any mates living close with working web cam that you could borrow to test

Mk-Ninja - 10/2/04 at 03:18 PM

John have you checked that the USB ports are active, They can be disabled in the BIOS.

Gordon

Scotty - 10/2/04 at 03:19 PM

if it detects the camera when plugging it in, they must be switched on

theconrodkid - 10/2/04 at 03:23 PM

i can see my cute face on the screen so they must be working, rang the shop and he wernt really interested, ill try to load the prog again later

Mk-Ninja - 10/2/04 at 03:23 PM

I didnt think it was recognising the camera, its coming up with no service straight away.

Gordon

Mk-Ninja - 10/2/04 at 03:25 PM

oops post took too long, Im out of ideas.

theconrodkid - 10/2/04 at 03:27 PM

somehow the cam prog is stopping the compo from connecting to the web

Scotty - 10/2/04 at 03:31 PM

i would take the web cam back and ask him to check it with messenger, assuming thats what you were using it with, as stated before i have heard of some cam not working with messenger

theconrodkid - 10/2/04 at 03:34 PM

cheers for yr advice chaps,he says he sells a lot of these and as most of the world uses the same compo progs i cant see them not talking to each other, wher,s chrisw when you need him???

PioneerX - 10/2/04 at 03:40 PM

conrod,

A lot of web cams actually need a piece of software from the install Cd that links the driver to messenger. For logitec it's calle IM companion, dont know what hitec called it.

Maybe we missed this when you loaded. The cam looks like its working as you can see yourself so the USB side is working and the windows driver.

Just a thought

Simon

Are you using broadband with USB attached Modem (or dial up with USB modem) . if you are the web cam could be causing the modem to not work. with the cam software installed remove the cam and try to connect to internet, if no connection then the problem is the soft ware (try to update drivers etc) if the connection works is is probobly a power issue with the cam, try to attach to a powered hub not strait to port, or if on a passive hub connect strait to port.

Scotty - 10/2/04 at 03:59 PM

any bets on it being an alcatel modem ???

splitrivet - 10/2/04 at 04:20 PM

theconrodkid - 10/2/04 at 05:08 PM

tis broadband and an alcatel modem, had cam working, turned it off and same prob,un install cam software and system restore to get back to you lucky lot,ill wait till chrisw gets back and bribe him, thanks for yr ideas chaps

Spyderman - 10/2/04 at 06:08 PM

Are you restarting your puter after installing the camera software?

Sometimes the new software takes over all ports untill reset.
Although a lot will run straight away, most software needs a reset to configure properly.
