New Miami Vice Ferrari Exhaust Flame
James - 4/3/09 at 12:44 PM

Anyone seen the 2006 version of Miami Vice?

There's a scene near the beginning where Tubbs' F430 Ferrari is racing along the motorway.
Each time the car accelerates there's blue flame out of the exhaust.

Is this standard? Or has someone fitted a spark plug in the exhaust?
Or is the car over-fueling? Maybe someone should have a word with Maranello about their MS setup?

Just curious really as to the cause. But it does look rather cool too!

Cheers,
James

The Mitsubishi EVO will spit flames on the overrun, my old Ducati 916 did too with the Termi's on.

Think its just the unburned fuel getting into the exhaust.

I think thats a sparkplug in the exhaust job, after all it is a movie. Think fast and the furious, when you do a nos blast you don't get blurry shifting like in star trek!

Its a film......

Bear in mind Michael Mann is meant to be known for the realism in his movies.

The street battle scene in Heat, for example, was all co-ordinated with/by an ex-SAS guy to keep it realistic.

You're right. They do.

I would have thought it was on overrun too, but in the vids I've seen it appears to be when accelerating.

Dont ya know nuffin?? its clearly the afterburners!!

Odds on the had to pipe a fuel supply into the exhaust, and then fitted a spark plug further back. As said, its a film after all.

What about when the car changes gear? Could it be doing it then?

(not seen the film)

Im sure its when the car drops a gear, the new Ferraris blip on the down change so might get a bit of extra fuel down the exhaust. I get the same pointy blue flame with my pinto if you blip it on the down change or when you back off the throttle and let it cruise down. Im guessing this is more the overlap in the cam in the last case

They must have made sure it would flame for the shot, probably a mixture of overfueling in the map and maybe igniter up the exhaust pipe. A mate had a RS turbo with a spark plug in the exhuast and the flame was more of a bright yellow flame about 2 foot long!

Looks alot cooler in Miami Vice rather than southend sea front!

My old blacktop zetec used to do it on overun. It was running twin jenveys, dta ecu and a slight leak in the exhaust which i never did find. Let off the throttle at anything over 4000rpm and i had a nice orange flame out the exhaust!
Had the map looked at twice, no overfuelling just the design of the exhaust system and a slight leak somewhere.

Have to say i liked it!

Took this video the other day as it seemed to be doing it alot. Car cover was still on just rolled it back over the bonnet so I could give it a quick run.

Changed the video as the sound was annoying and shortened it.
