What madness is this?

Name and shame? The man has lost the plot - we live in a capitalist society, its expected that some earn big. He just seems jealous to me.

Aye he's no right to know anyone's name. None of his business.

Madness indeed, a good way to lose votes that.

Anyway as he points out lots of high flyers get bonuses, if the PM is on 194,000 salery then he certainly gets some nice perks, free cars, free houses, free meals, massive expence account which must all tot up to millions, his 194k is his pocket money!!!

Although I have a fixed salary I have no obection to bonuses as long as the rational is correct, the trouble with lots of bonuses today are about signing business, not based upon margin growth so bad deals can be very fruitful.

Sell a 10million deal, get a fat cheque but the company loses money as the pricing was incorrect as the true cost was 12million.

This really is what has happened with the banks, its not the bonus culture but the rules placed around it failing

This is another step towards Comunism.... cant everyone else see this?

Schrodinger - 7/3/09 at 10:25 PM

As far as I am aware all public sector bodies have to publish details of all employees earning in excess of 50k.
I think all MPs incomes (not just from their job as MPs) should be published as some of them earn some very big money from second, third andmore "jobs"

spaximus - 7/3/09 at 10:41 PM

This will never happen. For one, the liberals will never get in so this is just getting air time. Two, it is no business of anyone what I or others earn, unless it is coming from the public purse.

The goverment have been happy to have people earning huge amounts because they pay huge tax, and the companies were making huge profits again more tax. Now due to lots of reasons they have got into difficult times and the goverment are shifting the blame away from them to bankers.
The bankers weren't the ones who removed the regulations the goverment did.
It is typical of Britain, instead of saying how do we get out of this quickly, they spend valuble time looking for who they can blame.

Don't know about you guys but what narks me is how exec's that work for banks that are running on taxpayers money still get paid massive bonuses even though they've lost millions through poor practice and greed, especially when there's apparently no money to pay nurses or firemen or keep hospitals open - our country is run by idiots!

Richard Quinn - 7/3/09 at 11:04 PM

T*sser! Rooney earns more a week than the PM does in a year. Does he think that it will bother him if it's in the public domain - Oh, it already is!
ETA - Actually it is just a bit less!

I find it offensive that the people losing me money still get paid the same. I've no wish to defend bank execs who failed in their duty, but I'm talking about the politicians too...

At what point are our lovely public servants going to work out that you don't improve an economy by preventing the rest of us from bettering ourselves?

At least the man has made it easier to decide, by counting his party out of the options...

NO... Not Communism... Its another step to a Intrusive Police State.

I may not agree with the rediculous wages some people earn.
However as said, its a capitalist country.

What gets my goat is the intrusion into ones private and personal affairs.

Just my 2d's worth

EDIT:
These people negotiate these contracts to include bonuses. What the company employing they should do is put in a "NO Performance = NO Bonus"
THATS the real issue. Not thet they get a huge bonus.
If they make the grade and get the business and profits for the company, then I see no reason for them not reaping the rewards. However, No performance = NO bonus should be written in to the contact.
Thats the right way to deal with this.

Might not be a bad idea to see what the bosses of the banks that we now 'own' (due to the massive bail-outs with our hard earned tax money) get paid for their 'performance' in future?

I would suggest that they get a bonus of keeping their jobs when they pay it all back with interest, and nothing until....

The company I work for pays a minimal bonus when we meet and exceed targets - hard to see how Northern Rock could justify their bonuses recently?
