Just had the sills on my mk1 mr2 welded up, whats the best stuff to coat them with?
Had it done professionally, and they'll be putting under body stuff on it, but mr2's are notorious for rusting here due to the plastic
skirts trapping dirt and leaves and general grot. I just want to overdo it and make sure its well protected.
Oh yeah, and how does 75 (+vat) quid per side sound for welding up the sills in front of the read wheels, bearing in mind its structural. Obviously
difficult to answer that one without seeing it.
£75 per side isn't,to my way of thinking, out of the way.Two & a half hours ish of "professional" welding time.Cheap at those
rates.I know of welder fabricators that charge £30+vat per hour(remember prep time)...
I would use a zinc rich primer(galvafriod style),Shultz.Top coat to seal it all.
Get something on it from the inside as well if you can, like waxoil or similar. There might be a blank plug on the inner sill or a hole you can inject
it through. It helps if there's some drainage for stuff to get back out if it gets in so don't block any holes that should be there.
yours, Pete.
Hi. having cheap work done ,normal mean corners cut. did he not paint the insides before weilding cills on.?
Acid etch primer is recomended, then seam seal it, then stone chip, then top coat.2k
after that wax oil the insides.
If its starting to rust, and needed cills its most prob rusty in other areas.
prevention of rust using wax oil or other similar products can save £s lateron.
to make a good repair last . you have to cut out all traces of the rust and replace with new metal.
you want to check out what primer and paint the weilder used.
