fuel pressure regulator mounting question
omega0684 - 10/3/09 at 03:30 PM

how far from the end of the fuel rail can you mount a fuel pressure regulator? at present i have the one from the bike TB attached to the end of the fuel rail but the closest i can get my new adjustable one is about 6" away from the end and the other location i can put it is about 18" away? and also, does the regulator have to be mounted below the fuel rail or can it be mounted above it, advice please

Shouldnt matter should it omega? everything before the regulator will be pressurised by it with any excess fuel being allowed to return to the tank.

I'm sure its only down to how much pipe the pump can pressurise rather than the valve on the end and im sure 6 or even 18 inches wont make much odds.

Space between the fuel rail and the reg won't make any difference.

Theoretically having the fuel rail very high above the regulator could cause a problem due to the "head" of fuel in the pipe to the regulator but realistically that's a very small % contribution to the pressure on the regulator.

e.g. most rails run @ 3 bar = 30,000mm H20!!

Not sure how you convert mm H20 into mm petrol but sure as beans ain't going to be a large %....
